So I was cleaning up a pile of parts, and came to realize I can build most of an atc110 from this pile! It will be a ratty rider, but for posterity, should the frame be the '79, or '80? The year is clearly visible on each frame. Which is rarer?

Yea I wouldn't bother with how rare the machine is, if it's a ratty ride, it has no collector value from that detail, atleast they aren't rare enough for that to be the case. If you want to make it right, look up the engine serial number you plan to use and match that year to the frame year, but again a ratty/ugly ride it shouldn't really matter. A rideable machine is better than a pile of parts.
Also, solid tip, 79-80 was 6v system, 81+ was 12v system. Just something to be mindful of for lighting. The atc110 engines should all interchange physically in the frames, the wiring and bulbs is where the difference is. If I'm not mistaken, I think the ATC90 engine can interchange in too but the wiring hookup might be different. I don't recall if the ATC125M had the same engine mount points or not, but could be another engine option. The ATC90 is 6v while the ATC125M is 12v (and has electric start with recoil)
If you want to check the VIN or engine serial, type it in on my site:

Well, the '79 is coming along! Just got a box of fun stuff from dratv, like that light! There was even 3 decent tires in the pile! The engine will be a numbers correct '79. Had to weld the sprocket area, but it keeps another engine alive. Good fun!
Nice work, looks to be coming along pretty well.
I like painted engines. Gonna put it in the frame real soon.

Frame is gonna stay dirty black. Fenders are red, with old stickers on them - even a boyesen power reeds sticker! The tank is staying red, and has a cool old registration sticker from 1981. Just got a red pleated seat cover. It may come out goofy, or look really slick. But one thing is certain, I REALLY like how the engine looks!
Temps moderated enough, and some free time came about, so I got out in the shed. Got a coal fire going and got tunes playing, and 'fred the dog standing guard. Got the (very) painted engine in the frame, and set on the tank, seat, and fenders. It may not be a proper restoration, and the drenched in paint engine may be goofy, but I absolutely dig the way it looks! The intent was to be a ratty rider built out of the scrap pile of parts, but this may be my new favorite look!

I too bought my 185 for the Clarke tank and the Bassini pipe ,just for sheets and giggles I cleaned the carb and it fired right up. Cut down a seat made it fit threw on a couple of tires and been ridin it since. And liking it. Nice save on the 110 good to see another one brought back to life.
