the beater 185 i have, someone pulled the hub out a inch and welded the hub to the axle on the splines.
I need the sprocket, so the hubs got to come off.
Is it worth trying to save the axle by grinding the welds, or just cut the axle? jim

went out and really looked at the axle, they took some hubbthats not even a factory hub and welded it to the axle. then they welded the rim off-center to the rim so the wheel is off center. So tomorrow, out comes the saw zall. jim

I doubt you can cut the welds and save both pieces, junk it and find a new one.

The hubs tend to wear their inners before the harder axle. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this done on Zinnger YT60’s. You’d be better off with complete hub axle bearings chain and sprockets rims and tires. If you ad up your parts list it might serve you to find another same model unit. This is a scrap yard near me www.cyclesrus.net might get lucky never know what they might have. It really depends on how beat is the machine you have and can your budget go an extra mile for the nicer less new unit keeping, or parting out what you have.
fortunately I already have a extra axle and hubs. Got them installed last night. I was just wondering if the welded axle was worth trying to keep. I'm just going to cut it tonight, get the sprocket mounted and the chain back on. tires should be here Friday, my 81 185 with plates and title will get the new rubber, the project trike gets the used rubber. jim
