    Swingarm Opinion?

So after heat, beat, chisel, repeat, I finally got what was left of my swingarm bearings out. This was all there was.Click image for larger version.

ID:	265231 Just the outer cage of the needle bearing . That's it. Nothing else was in there. Needles to say it was a bit over due. So now look at this. Click image for larger version.

ID:	265232Do I need a new swing arm? I can drop the bearing right into one side. No pressure needed. It just falls in. I'm guessing a new swingarm is on order. Saw a fairly nice refurbished one for $325 on eBay. Is that my best bet or can this one be salvaged? I'd rather not have to shell out the $325 right before Christmas. Thanks for the input.

Or does anyone know if an '85 swingarm will fit? I know they are different part numbers but anyone know the differences? It may be with the brake caliper mounts if I remember correctly. Thanks again everyone.

Take it to a machine shop and have them bore and sleeve it. Take the bearing with you so they can measure it to get the fit correct. They should be able to line it up properly without too much hassle.

I always replace with delrin. Any machine shop can do it. Not a big deal

When you mention delrin what exactly is that? A sleeve inserted onto the bore with an inside diameter of the factory swingarm bore? That seems like it would be mighty thin between the swing arm bore and the bearing. There's probably only a 1/32 of an inch gap worn out.

What year and model ATC? Should be able to find a good used swing arm for way less than $325

delring bushings replace all the sleeves and spacers and need bearings. Many people make them for models and sell on here or ebay.

What bike is this for? I make delrin bushings and can make them slightly oversized to compensate for wear.

You probably could have found a new swingarm cheaper than the shop is probably charging. Unless it's a buddy doing a G Job.

Guy told me about $200. Cheapest swing arm I saw on eBay was $185 and looked pretty beat. Plus then there's the hassle of swapping out the axle, carrier, etc. For $15 more its worth it to me to be able to just bold the swinger back on, hook up the brake caliper and chain, bolt on the wheels and go. Should have it back today or tomorrow. Hope it works out.

For future reference, having delrin bushings made would've only costed about 1/4 of what all that machine work did.

If any of you guys ever need some bushings, adapters or collars made, I do small one off custom jobs for a reasonable cost all the time...

I would have made you a set of bushings for $35 shipped.
