FYI, I used an aftermarket Banshee hub for my swing-arm and discovered it was offset 1” to the left way too late to change my mind. I assume the issue is that the Banshee engine started life out as an RD 350 in a street bike chassis, so the output shaft is further to the left than a single cylinder dirt bike would be. Fortunately I’m running a Tusk axle that comes with an assortment of spacers, so I was able to get the axle centered to the front wheel. I’m sure you can make it work, just be aware that you might have to work around some amount of offset if you use a Banshee set-up.

In the end I had to run the sprocket on the inside of the carrier and also had to get some material machined off it in order to align the sprockets. If I want to change the sproket I have to remove the sprocket carrier from the axle.
    It sucks to get old

You end up with a similar offset problem using the so called "bolt on YFZ swingarm". Even though Yamaha YFZ quad and the YZ450f and the WR450f all have "Basically" the same engine., The quad tranny is wider than the ones in the bikes so the sprockets don't line up. I had to move the rear sprocket to the inside plus add a spacer. The problem that pops up when doing this is there is only so much you can move the sprocket over until you hit the swing arm. Mine was a custom swingarm so I could design around it, but if you are using a existing swinger take measurements to make sure you have the room to move it over to get everything lined up.

I think you should stick with the bike linkage setup. It would be easy to limit travel with the bumpstop and probably a much better design. Not that you can't get banshees setup well, but they are not known for great suspension. Your bike shock will have high and low speed compression adjustments and the banshee only has a general compression setting. I think you should also reconsider the low seat height. In my experience, the seat height difference between a 350x or even a 250r and a tecate makes a huge difference in rider fatigue. That depends on how long your legs are though. Riding my tecate reminds me a bit of a bike in terms of ergonomics and I think it is the way to go. I can ride harder for longer because I am not doing an ATG squat everytime I sit down.

I did forget that the sprocket was so far out on banshees...... hmmm...... I'll keep thinking about my options. I did have to space out my yfz rear sprocket on the xt550, about 1/4 inch.

The last conversion I did I kept the bike shock and it was too tall. Hanging off the seat in aggressive turns was more tiring to me. It's more comfortable to ride my 200x and im 6'4". I want a low seat height, I won't be jumping 15 feet in the air

I’m working with sprocket offset on my build so I figured I’d throw in here what I did to solve mine on a 185s axle. I think it came out nice. Just something to give you brainstorm ideas

Hey does anyone know what the fork length on a 85-6 250r is from axle to top of tube? I have a chance at some that might work for me.

Going solely off of my bad memory, 39” sounds very familiar.

I hope to get some time in the garage tomorrow, I'll try to remember to get a measurement.

Anyone get a chance to measure? 39 sounds really long to me, that's what the yz250 forks are stock

Yes, I agree. I was out in the garage the other day and roughly put a tape measure to my inverted setup, and it was no where near 39". Granted, it was sitting on the ground with a bit of sag, but not that much sag. I must have been remembering the length of full-size dirt-bike forks. If you like, I will measure my setup with no sag. I know the length of the KTM 85SX forks, that I used, was pretty close (probably within 1/2" or less) to the OEM 250R forks length.

Measuring my inverted forks, with front end off the ground & no sag, they are 32 7/8" from the top of the fork cap to axle center.

So here's some 2002 yz85 forks. Measure 33 inches axle to top, so very very close to stock 250r. 10ish inches of travel so the frame won't hit the ground. and I can get heavy springs for them.

I got a chance to measure a 250r this weekend and I don't need to do as much modification as I originally thought to get close with this frame. Changing the head tube angle is the main work. The distance from the swingarm bolt to the head tube is within a half inch, and the position of the swingarm bolt relative to the whole frame. I will end moving the rear shock mount to match the banshee shock.

But as usual when I have time for these projects I'm broke, so I'll keep up the snail pace

I have a 1x6 inch chunk of aluminum in the mail along with stuff for the front axle. I'll just have to show you my plan up front.
