Nice work on the tank, it almost makes me want to bring back the shine to my oem tank, almost, haha.

I enjoyed the video. I'm cheap and would try to bring the tank and rear fenders back as much as I could too. I do need to try this on the plastic tank on my 250ES someday. It doesn't have to be perfect, but the sun faded color does bother me. Click image for larger version.

ID:	268707That's the example of my tank. This one will just be rider quality. My next one will be the looker. The only thing that I heard that didn't sound right was about the oil change. I know that my 97 KX250 and my 88 Tecate4 don't have oil filters and I think that the 250R would be similar. Maybe with the fresh oil and some ride time, the clutch will free itself.

liked the video. has anyone tried actual auto paint for the rear fender? I'm talking paint like they use on the plastic front bumpers? I believe they add flexo into the paint to allow it to flex. Paint supply places can mix colors, add the hardener, add the flexo and sell it in a aerosol can. jim

Jim, Bigfoot Bikes and Brew did paint his fenders on his 110 resto. I have a friend in the auto body business who says that he has done the same thing as he did and it held up well. The 80 grit scratches may show up after a while if the paint shrinks. He said that he goes to 400 before painting, but that 180 grit would probably work. I think that the biggest things when you paint plastics are the adhesion promoter and the epoxy primer. The flex agent is a given though.

I may be wrong here, but are you sure that is wasn't a Honda Grom? I haven't heard of a Honda Gnome. You're right about people. With ATVs in general, not just three wheelers, I've met a lot of good people and am friends with some of them. I've also met some who weren't worth bragging about, but not too many. As far as the seat cover goes, since you're not building a museum piece, go with which ever style you want. In fact, build the whole thing how you want to. I've ridden a 1981 250R both stock and after YeagarB went through the engine, a 1984 250R with a DG exhaust (I don't know if anything else had been done to it), and a stock and a built up liquid cooled 250R (I don't know what years they are). At the risk of being lambasted for my opinions, I preferred the stock 3rd gen and the 81 before it was gone through. They just fit my riding style better. I don't need to get there as quickly as possible. If I owned a 250R, then I may change my opinion, but since I don't I prefer them to be stock. Great video. I will be waiting for the next ones into next year.

    Hey 350for350
Its been years since I have ridden anything like this, finding out when the its going to kick in is going to be my biggest learning curve, I am use to 4 strokes with more steady increase in power, this is going to the some getting use to.
As for mods and such, when it comes to motor, I care more about easy to start, and longevity, I do not want to have to kick it all day to ride it. I just want to enjoy the it. As for the seat, I liked the 250r print better, than ATC, as for height, I am not that tall so the shorter seat may be better. Once the rear brake get sorted and hunting season is over, I will be doing some trail riding with it. It still needs a lot of work the suspension is very soft, I am such a sock rebuild would do wonders, I do not like the 22 in tires I will go with 20s I think with factory gearing, I like to keep the rpms up on a 2 stroke, since I am not a fast rider the smaller tires should help with that.

For that video, I almost didn't make it, I did not get the 450 caliper put on because the brake pads didn't show up, the front brake hose I ordered was to short, I was striking out and running out of time, yes I mis-spoke its was a Honda Grom (lol) I even tried the front brake hose off a 200x, but it didn't fit either. They really saved the day.

Thanks for watching, I am glad you liked the video.
    Merry Christmas

great video! it's fun watching you go through these trikes. Now that you found your R, I will bet before the end of 2022 you'll have at least 1 more liquid R. These things tend to multiply for some reason. jim

Hey jim, you might be right, I have a lead on some 84 250r parts now, I may pick up.
I am kinda' jonesing for a honda FL300 or Fl400, I have never had one, I remember seeing a fl250 as a kid, it was a "real" gocart.
We will see. I am looking forward to 2022 for sure, Personally I have school and now my licenses behind me
After 5 years that monkey is off my back, feels like a weight has been taken off of me.
I just passed my state boards this week, so a lot of that energy in this video is a result of passing that.
Thank you watching and your collection is growing fast too. lol

looks like you have plenty of room to ride. I bought a fl250 cheap, ran it up and down the street and the huge turn radius made me sell it after a week. jim

I used to want a FL250 when I was in high school. I didn't get to ride one until I was about 30. I rode it across a field at top speed. The gopher mounds that I hit going that fast changed my desire for one really quickly. I had marks from the seat belt for a day or two after that.

I am enjoying watching your channel. I always have had nothing but hardtails and have always had fun on them. When I was in my late teens, I got to rip my friend's 250R and Tecate around the Glamis sand dunes and they are super fast and fun. But, in my 50's now, and I think a 200X is about as fast as I want to go now. So, on the hunt for a nice one. Still, fun watching you work on that two-stroke R.

Keep up the great channel. Also, for what its worth, I really enjoy the vids when you teach. Rebuiling the pull starter, changing the square connector to a round connector to run the cheaper CDI, fender repair, etc. Have you tackled rear bearing replacement on a hardtail? I would enjoy seeing that.

    Hi Flighttofphx (great movie)
I have not done a video on rear bearing, I have changed several sets , but nothing on video.
I did just video front bearings on the R, but have not released it.
Thanks for watching, I have enjoyed making them.
A 200x is a great machine, fast enough to be fun, and provide soft ride and disc brakes, it really is a great all round bike with a hand clutch.
If I a recommend 86 or 87, these have better frames, stronger engines, and are not prone to the slipping kicker problem the 83/84 and some 85s have.
Like you I started on on hardtails, I still enjoy throwing one around, and agree the R and 350x can be a handful.
I would love the opportunity to blast flat out across the dunes, that must have been so much fun.
    Thanks for sharing

Ditto, that's one of the big reasons I love my stock R, choke -> 2-3 kicks -> ride . . . pretty much every time.
