    Kawasaki KXT 250 tecate restoration

Hello guys, I'm Antreas and i'm located in Greece. Two years ago a very good friend told me he found and wanted to buy an old kawasaki three wheeler "deathtrap". That moment my mind whent somewhere to 1999 where i saw that kawasaki three wheeler for the very first time.It was an absolute monster, what a badass machine.I was 11 years old and i already had a yamaha 110 of course 2 stroke bike. The guy who owned the kxt-tecate was living near me so i get used seeing him a lot doing really crazy things! At this point i realy wanted one. But as i grew up i really forget about that kawasaki exists untill that friend talk me about it.Then he went to see it and he told me that he is not interested in buying it because that trike is for the scrap yard.I told him i want it and he told me take it.So i went to see it and it was horrible, it was a basket case trike left out in the rain for 10 or more years... Before that it has seen all the use you can see on a trike from a redneck. So looking at the engine you could see the welded on the shaft shift lever, welded flywheel on the crank, welded front sprocket on the shaft and welded kick lever. . . Long story short i bought it and one moth later i found another one that was also a mess but not that much and i also bought it. Since april 2019 i have read ALL the pages at trikesylvania-anything about tecates and i have been collecting parts and parts so i can have that machine like new when i'm done with it. So it's been a while since someone made a thread about a tecate restoration so i hope you guys like it and keep up with me just for sharing stuff, opinions and why not some good knowledge.
This it what i start with.

Ones in that shape are the best ones! I wonder if the airbox has been sawed? I probably know the answer. She's a beauty! Smart to get her.

Well the airbox it is indeed sawed but not at the point you would be excpecting it to be! Maybe some previous owner did it so it can have more air in ? Who knows!! This trike has A lot of work to be done so this sure will take a while guys.My goal is to assemle it with all the rebuilt parts as it is,then take it apart to be painted and then final assembly!I will try to post any progress cause i try to keep up with my ordinary work and stuff. Thanks

I was wrong. Can't believe it but it hasn't been sawed. Looks like some mice chewed it around the filter area but the panhandle part is ok. Most have been cut for more airflow but also to make the access to the carburetor easier. ect. Looks like there is a chance of repairing that airbox. Wild, those are $350+ in good shape.

Yeap, at first i thought of the mise also but then i said to myself maybe not! It must have been a very very hungry mise.Of course i'm gonna repair that airbox but i want you guys to ask about the mounting. It has only 2 bolts and then the neck on the carb but at the front upper it has no bolts. Was it secured with some sort of band from the factory?Cause from the vibrations it was rubbing on some points and it has some deep scuffs etc... My thounght is to secure it on the frame somehow...

Yes i really like restoring and save some ruff survivors!

Well that's going to be a very badass build.I see some parts from BVC.Are the tripples also from them? Are you going big bore also?

Well you know these three wheelers were imported only in the US.When they banned them,Japan couldn't ship them there so the big manufacturers instead of throw all these away they made them available to maybe some people in Japan and at the time many Greek guys were importing stuff (car parts-Honda's c50's) from Japan and that's how these machines came to Greece, ( From what I have heard)So my point is that because they banned in 1987 i have never seen an 1984-1985 model from upclose but i really like them a lot.
In the US you have too many and most people have it for garbage and they think of the 1986-1987 model as the king and i see prices there for that model go as high as 8.000
Here we have(i think only)( but i will say) many 1986-1987 models instead.
I wish i had an A2 model also!

Andreas, that is a very nice start for your build. It looks like it has a lot of the hard to find parts like the headlight, airbox, chain and brake guards, sprocket guard. It even has original wheels and tires. Good luck on the build, please keep us updated
Looking for a Bassani silencer for a 2nd gen tecate, the style with the movable mount. 1st gen will work

Yeah 86T3 you are right here are some very hard to find parts and some of these are in really good shape. This trike is a mix of two different trikes, one 86 one 87 so some parts are really messed up and others are in great shape as i said.I have the wheels and tyres you see mounted and i have another set that seller had which are really worn out, no thread on them even at the front tyre!

So on to the airbox, the filter cage was missing so i went up and order one oem kawasaki for a KDX 200 and it almost fits.It leaves a gap at the back that the filter itself wasn't able to "close" so i did a modification, i removed the shoulder that the cage had at the center bolt where it mounts and the gap isn't there anymore. Then the bolt at the center is too short so you can slowly drill it out (be very carefull it's a 10mm hex bolt in the center part of the base so you don't want to over heat that cause it will melt the plastic away) and put a thread on and use another longer bolt

Nice looking tecate! Looks like you will be using a skinny front tire? Are those forks shortened at all?

Cool seeing a tecate over in Greece!

These are my headlights. My very best the one with the glass as you guess. A little heat gun and the glass is off for cleaning. The other two just to make anything else, maybe a led conversion with other type of glass. What i want to mention is if you change bolts to the headlight beware not to use longer bolts cause they will intefere with it bending it and destroying it. Nothing special here just showing parts as i have been very busy working.Next will be shock absorber restoration so stay tuned.
