    200e into a 200x?

    Hey guys, I am trying to shoehorn a 200e with sub-trans into my stock 84 200x chassis.
    the upper rear mount lines up, the lower rear mount line up but the sub-trans hits the back of the engine cradle.
    am I missing something, or will this not work?

    Second idea was to remove the sub-trans, can that be taken off and use it like a 200m?

    I saw someone make this work but they had to notch the frame, it's not a bolt in unfortunately.

    I believe there's a thread about it on this forum.

    I have heard you had to notch for the starter. but did not expect any issues with the sub-trans hitting the frame.
    I did search before I posted, I didn't find anything.

    I've seen a 200X with a 200E engine before.

    Obviously the E-start is nice, but having a low range really opens up more slow speed technical riding, without having to beat the hell out of the clutch.


    The only downside is the countershaft sprocket, which requires removing the sub-transmission to replace. Not a huge deal, but another gasket or two each time it needs done. I don't think there are many (any?) choices on tooth count either, so any gearing changes will have to be done with the rear sprocket only. Not really an issue with stock size tires, but anything far above or below that, will require a gearing change.

    Will keep watching for the next video of how you solved it. I built an Auto-X before with a 200E motor, had to heat and beat a small recess into the downtube to make room for the starter, but everything else lined up. I was going to say maybe the starter is preventing you from shoving it too far forward to make room for the sub-trans, but sounds like you got it figured out.

    Thanks for the input guys.
    I found a picture of one, unfinished but it was in there, I spoke to the builder and he said it would fit with trimming. Well it does.
    If you want the short version (not watching the video)
    I had to trim the frame at the swing arm mounting area on the left side
    I had to trim the back side of the sub transmission and the "ear" that hangs off the case
    I had to make a new front motor, 200x mounts are different than a 200e and the distance between the case and frame is shorter than a 200e
    I had to recess the front frame tube to clear the starter.

    That's really all it took. the head clears fine, the upper mount works without modification, the chain line up perfectly. I verified chain center line after indexing off the two rear mounts.

    watched parts 1 and 2. I use the same "bolt extraction" method almost. next time you try that, use a washer rather than a nut. easier to get a good weld. then weld another washer to that washer only standing up so the washers form a T. Then twist out. A nut is to deep to get penetration on weld. (get your minds out of the gutter) lol. anyway good vids. waiting for part 3. build should come out great. I have made a couple but no e-start. 1 was a 185. never changed top ends thought. And I am sure I did the back brakes differently than you are talking.

    I will keep the washer trick in mind, I have had good luck when its a stud sticking out a little vs broken flush like that one, I was able to drill and re tap it to a 6mm, it all worked out
