I would like to get thoughts on the proper starting procedure on machines using a mikuni vm carburetor. I thought I had read somewhere with how these carbs are designed that the way they store un burnt fuel that the starting procedure should be as such. Turn on the choke, pull the rope no throttle until it burps, turn off choke give it has and it starts. For years I have been using this procedure and for the most part it has worked. It’s when I miss the burp or don’t give it gas that it screws the whole starting procedure out the window. At that point I pull the plug dry it off stick it in and it fires. Am I wrong in using the choke on start up regardless of temperature? I’ve re read mikuni guides and it makes sense in how I am doing it kind of like clearing the system. Anybody care to chime in on this?
