1985 250es electric start not working

I have an 85 250es and the electric start has stopped working. It starts with 3 - 4 kicks but when I try the electric start it just clicks. It was working fine a couple days ago but now just clicks. It has a new battery new ignition coil and a new solenoid.

All worked fine as I said up until a couple days ago. So I replaced the solenoid just in case but still no go. Could it be the CDI or is it likely the starter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Starter is more than likely the issue or at least the brush’s are worn out.

Thanks very much, I removed the starter and inspected the brushes and one of the brushes has a broken connection so I am assuming that is the problem!

Going to replace the starter and hope that is all that is wrong.

You may be able to re-solder the connection if its the wire to to the brush.
I have had good luck just cleaning the armature and windings, brushes and contacts.
just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion, I did consider that but the brushes are pretty bad. Found a good deal on a replacement so hoping that takes care of it.

New starter did the trick, fires right up. Unfortunately now it is ready to sell!!
