New Guy Here, just acquired a 85 250es big red

Hoping to get it resurrected from the dead, got the plastics off and inspected the frame, other than it being dirty af I don't see any cracks or serious damage.
A few missing components, hoping I can acquire over time, most notable seems to be the brakes, brake lever, brake pedal, rear brake completely gone.

Going to start with a battery and new carb. and a beer or 3, hopefully that will get the engine back to running.
Any advice on carburetors, where to get, where to avoid?

    This is my 3rd atc to own, had a 82 200s and a 84 200x

Congratulations on your new purchase. I LOVE my 85 250ES. My carb advice is to stay FAR, FAR away from the cheap, Chinese ones. Some people say that they have good luck with them, but most seem to have some trouble clear up to never running right with those things. OEM is the best way to go. I'm running a OEM 300EX carb on mine.

Best is to try and rebuild your original carb, there is a thread on here somewhere, that is a step by step for your particular carb as far as I remember.

Rebuild the OEM carb, kits are available, its not that hard, and in the end it will be a thousand times better then a cheap chinese clone.
