Before I do the whole top end

Looking for my source of smoke

    1) fresh gas not mixed
    2) pulled exhaust packing
    3) compression test gets me to 160s at about 8 kicks throttle open (cold or warm)
    4) leak down at tdc at 100 psi shows maybe 4-5 psi leak or less, can’t hear a leak

Starts on first kick, runs great more smoke on throttle, minimal at idle

KISS is rings but I’m not able to prove it

One 86 200x i bought yrs ago now, seller had recently switched over to synthetic oil and claimed it smoked due to that ya sure.....whatever u say. well i bought at a decent (cheap) price at the time. Funny thing is after two dino oil changes the smoke stopped and has run great ever since. Maybe worth an oil change or two, i wouldn't have believed it myself but i saw the smoke clear up after a few days. I have stayed away from synthetic oils in my bikes ever since.

just my experience..... on that one particular bike.

otherwise valve seals are cheap, you must have a borescope around that shop somewhere to peak inside the cylinder through the plug hole.

good luck, you'll like that bike when u get it running good..

I'll have to agree with Shep. With that kind of compression, I don't think that it's in your rings. I would lean toward valve seals.

Try the oil change, but I bet the valve stem seals are leaking.

Like Shep said try fresh oil. My 86 200X smoked when I bought it, oil looked milky almost like it had some water in it. Fresh oil and all smoke disappeared after 10 minutes of riding. No smoke since and bought it back in 2013

Another vote for valve guide seals, try an oil change first.
