    tell me about suspended 185s'???

hopefully picking up a suspended 185s this week. not sure if it's a kit where the back of the frame got a swing arm adapted. pretty sure that's how it was done. was this a kit back in the day? front end looks like aftermarket front suspension, not a 200s front end.
on the frame, was there cutting and surgery involved? both my 185s's have titles and if its simple to swap over I'll do that, if it requires lots of cutting and welding, I'll just title the new trike. jim

Got any pics? I've seen a few different examples of suspensions on the 185s 200s machines, but I'm only familiar with the pk racing bolt on version. I put one on my 185s back in the mid 80s. It is a pure bolt on kit with cutting of some of the stock frame components to accommodate the new hardware. I came with a two stage works shock. To level out the ride, I ordered a front shock kit from Terry cable, which increase suspension travel to about five inches. There's likely some other guys here that can give more advice and expertise.

picked it up today. no idea about any of the parts, it's a weld in kit, no idea what kind of front end. not sure what I'm going to do with it, traded a extra 350x head for it. motor is suppose to run. jim

Looks like it could be a one off home-made job. Deleted the airbox to mount the shock. It definitely has potential as a restore and would be one of a kind. If you need bushings for the swingarm pivot, there's a guy on FB might be able to make them.

Cool! It looks pretty wide for a "S" model.

it's got spacers on the rear hubs. haven't got a chance to really look at it since I got home. 1st up is to get the motor to run. everything's there for that. I've been messing with a 200x frame and might use the motor, harness and exhaust on the 200x. jim

I'll get better pics later, lower bar looks like 1x2 uppers are nicely cut plates, definetly doesn't look like it's hand cut and has a x brace. jim

As long as it's done well it doesn't matter if it's home fabricated.

Good luck finding a replacement rear sprocket though.

I have a 200s I would like to have modified with rear suspension. I would probably have a fabricator I know do it. Could you show some good pics that I could share with him?
    Thanks

4 more pics. I think the exhaust will fit on my 200x zombie project. no idea what the front and is either.
not sure if it's going to be a donor for the 200x project, motor, harness, exhaust. or just get it running, find a seat, ive got a extra rear fender, use the 200x wheels, tires and hubs on this and bail on the 200x. jim

if you need better pics, I can get them for you Corey, I did shoot some carb cleaner down the carb and got it running for a bit. there's mud in the carb fuel inlet so the carbs gotta come apart. but at least it did fire up with the ugly carb for a few seconds! basically a chain, air filter, and a seat is what it needs for a start, ive got 2 other 185s so I can swap the rear fender/seat easy enough. checked the vin and it's a 1981. jim

The current one is dished to replace the stock damper assembly while maintaining the correct chainline. That style is still available for the early big tire 185/200 ATCs, but I'm not aware of any for the later small tire 185s. There were a few rear sprocket bolt patterns for the 185/200 series and yours has the later four bolt one but it looks different than the last four bolt like used on the 200S and maybe last of the 185S.

I had a Sunstar(?) brand one I gave away last year, but the one on yours looks slightly different.

Most of those require ditching the stock airbox for a pod filter. If you ride in wet conditions, that's going to be an issue. Does the rain in Maine stay mostly on the plain?
