350 fourtrax parts swap?

going to look at a 86 350d, I know the head, cam and cylinder swaps to a 350x. anything else I should look for? jim

bought it, it's a 87. no plastics, seat. head, cam, cylinder will come off tomorrow. most of the rest is headed to the scrap heap. Anything useful to trikes ( nuts bolts shifter kick start will get pulled. jim

The intake grommet between the carb and head will interchange. If you don't need it I may be interested. Depends on its condition. I think the CDI might be the same as well. I maybe interested in that too. The head light lens look the same but mount up just a bit differently. My 350X Has 1 lens from a 350D and the other is 350X.

The rear wheels will fit the 250 big red.

headlight buckets cracked, but the lens is good. the intake boot looks cracked. I traded for a 350x a year ago that had a bad cam, I lucked out and found a complete head for 250+ dollars on ebay. I sold that 350x but have another, so I decided to start collecting spare parts in case I decide to make the 350x my keeper. And the trx350 was 250 bucks. So I think it'll be worth that in spare parts when I need it. jim

I know a local guy who is somewhat of a 350D expert. I texted him your question. I will let you know what he says.

thanks. I guess I won the 350 lotto. pulled the top end off, cam and rockers are great. valves look good
cylinders good. the pistons scored so it's staying with the shortblock. jim

Here is the response from my local 350D expert:
The 350D has stud bolts tapped in and the big reds and 250sx and 250 four wheelers are tapped for bolts. You can use a big red rear end on a 350D but not the 350D for any other because the stud bolts are bigger than the threaded bolts on the others

I was just thinking. if this quad was a trike, I would have ordered a new piston, seat, plastics and tires and put it back together. I have no use for a quad, It didn't bother me at all to strip it for parts. I've brought 3 wheelers in a lot worse shape back to life. jim

I on the other hand am a handle bar slut. I'll ride anything. From Husaberg to Hodaka, Kawasaki to KTM, Not many I have not ridden. Still hoping to ride a Maico some day.

could you ask your friend how the rearend comes off the 350? I have it unbolted and it's separated about a inch. the shaft doesn't want to separate from the pinion in the differential. I'm hoping it's just oil sucking it together. thanks. jim

If you were closer I would use the bottom end. But shipping form az wouldn’t be cheap

thing is probably pretty heavy. I pretty much took any bolt or nut I can unscrew off the entire frame and motor. jim

His response: It would have to be stuck then because there is a spring in between the shaft and the pinion
