    Rear Fender Screws

Anyone have any tips or tricks on trying to remove the rear fender screws that attach the mudflaps? The nuts on the bottom are pretty rusty and have tried soaking them with penetrating fluid but still no luck on breaking them loose. Hard to get a good grip on them using a flat head screwdriver.

First of all if they look like Phillips head screws, make sure you are using a JIS screwdriver and not an actual Phillips head screwdriver to hold them. There’s still a good chance you’re not going to be able to bust them loose, so I would suggest you drill right through them starting with a bit that is smaller than the screw and if you can pilot a hole straight through it, go up to the size of the screw and punch through it. Replace those screws with stainless steel hardware and use a little bit of anti-seize when you put them back together, just make sure to either use a lock washer, or better yet a Nyloc nut.

Thanks. They are just a regular screwdriver. Was thinking of trying to cut them with a dremel if I can’t get them off.
