    Honda Sportrax 400EX

Any of you guys familiar with these ATV's? Came across a 2004 Honda Sportrax 400EX. Seller said it has a 440 big bore kit and has owned it for 4 years. Runs and drives fine, the neutral light does not come on and could use new tires. He's asking $1200 for it but have worked out a trade for something I have which only cost me $700. I'm considering going to check it out and if all checks out doing the trade. Any advice would be much appreciated on these machines. Here is the only pic I have of it.

Trading a firearm and ammo that I purchased for $700. What are these machines worth these days?

Just noticed on the pic that engine is goldish in color. That's not factory correct?

Its called dirt on painted aluminum and its head gasket it done for or leaking. Hes trading it away because it needs work. That's why Everyone trades stuff.

if you dont really know what your looking for or how to work on stuff let it go. atv's like other things are a thing of the past and its 20 years old basicly...trades and quick and dirty. Rarely have they ever worked out for me.

I can work on stuff and usually do pretty well on trades but the gold engine scares me. I asked him about it and he said it was like that when he purchased the quad 4 years ago. He was under the impression that it was original.

Went to go look at it yesterday and past on it. The pic of it looked way better than it did in person. Thanks fellas for the advice.

Gold engine cases are dirt that has baked onto the aluminum. That's not a big deal. Your hung up on visual things. It's a normal run of the mill 400ex. Nothing special.

I hear ya, it had multiple oil leaks, wiring was hacked up and plastics were beat. I'm capable of fixing the oil leaks and other stuff but wasn't looking to get into all that. I was only after this 400ex if I was getting a great deal.
