I think you're shifting backward. From what I remember, neutral should be all the way up.
I pick up a 77 atc90 engine in a ct90 frame has wiring issues but I noticed that when you shift down into neutral it shift past and is in gear again. Anything that can cause this.

Yep , your shifting the wrong way , all the way up is neutral .
It’s a down shift motor .

When it is in neutral it will shift up or down and be in gear again. I had a chinese 50cc atv that would shift past the final gear and be in neutral. Just wondering what could cause shifter to shift up past neutral when it should stop like my 185s.
