While I have the engine out of my 200ES frame for paint, I decided to replace valve seals (smoke during startup) and to figure out why I could not manually move the auto tensioner at all. I discovered the boss in the left case half that the tensioner shaft runs through is cracked. Looks like someone was unable to move it and ed on it and broke it without knowing. The shaft had to be ed out and is nicked as well. This is why I could not move it. I have a good condition used case on the way. My question is, can I pull the left case half without splitting the cases? The bolts go through the left case into the right case. But I am unsure if the transmission/sub-trans assy is attached to the left case. I have the tools to split the case and pull the crank, but was wondering if I can get away without splitting it, since there's alot of labor in taking the rest of the bottom end apart to get it to just a left/right case, especially on an ES. If that makes sense. Thanks.
