Is that an 86 Swingarm? Are the brakes mounting the same?

1985 350x work in progress
No, it's an 85 that I cut the original brake stay piece off and drilled and welded a bolt in for a new brake stay bushing and then I used the 450r caliper, stay, hub and rotor. They work pretty well other than I think the rotor is bent.

You can see in the first picture where I drilled all the way through for the bolt. I used a bolt with a long shoulder on it and cut the threads and head off and welded it after doing some measuring and mock ups. I built this 350x from a pile of parts starting about a year ago and I just took it for its first ride today. I need to rejet the carb but it's finally running.

Nice job thinking out of the box! it's fairly easy to use any rear caliper on anything after doing some mock up work, the fronts have to fit within the rim and mount to the fork leg so they're not as easy to swap with 3 wheelers. I buy up any cheap 85 350X swingarms I can find, chop off the threaded stud and make a 86 style pin with a groove in my lathe, weld it on and then have 86 style brakes. The 85 brake setup adds allot of extra parts that get sloppy, and there seem to be far more 85 swingarms than the 86's out there. I was buying new NOS TRX450 calipers from Honda for 100$, they've gone up a bit since then but you still can't beat the price for a brand new Japan caliper.
The other swap I've done multiple times is to mill down the 450R swingarm and with some other mods you can run the entire 450R rear end with the axle and hubs etc on an 85/86 350X with linkage suspension, it works very well. Back 5 years ago I could find new take off swingarms for 50$ and take off new axles for under 100$, they too have gone up allot in price, just like everything.
You may have bought those 86 sprocket bolts from me on Ebay, same user name... I sold quite a few of them.
Indiana is such an awesome place for riding. Did you get your 350X motor all set??

I had forgot to mention that I placed 3rd during that last race. They had actually postponed it one weekend due to weather but I got 1st on my 450r and 3rd on my dx225 (actually 2nd but they scored us wrong).

I'm nearly out of those bearings and seals, and they weren't easy to get. I also had the discontinued brake pedal dust seals made for the R and X, people would be shocked to know how long it takes and what it costs. Such a tiny dust seal with no spring I figured would be about .50 cents to make, not so in the least. But, once you reach out to a dozen or so manufacturers and only 1 gives you a quote, what can you do?? What's even worse was about 600 seals still weighs under 1lb, but because it's an "industry" they charge 40$ shipping for a 8x8x8 box.; it's very frustrating.
As far as your racing, I'm amazed that more people aren't showing up, you'd have better luck telling people on Facebook, that's where everyone is now. Many years ago there was a tight knit group of guys here all helping each other, almost no one got scammed ever, great group of people. I miss those days...

I've been sharing away on Facebook and a few others I know have too. I'm mainly just trying to document everything here so that if by chance someone close sees it that doesn't use Facebook they would have the opportunity to come out.

It's kind of crazy, with all the people going to Trikefest in Indiana, which basically has no racing anymore (as it once did), why wouldn't they want to go to races in Indiana!!?? People should show up in force and they may open up more events, all they care about is attendance and the revenue generated.
I'm sure some people are old school in that area but overall no matter if it's turtles or mosquitos racing, they need to pay for the track, the machines, taxes, permits, insurance, watering, the equipment needed to maintain everything, the workers etc, if lots of people show up and is prosperous, they will have more events.
I'm about 10 minutes from a track they let us on in Massachusetts for the NHMX 3wheeler class that year, same year they let us on Southwick. Barely anyone showed up that even had gear. They had open face helmets, atc200's, hardtails, workboots and jeans, that was one and only event ever in 30 years. I can't even practice there now.
These days it seems like people beg to allow 3 wheelers yet when they give a date only a handful of guys show up. People made enough noise that 3 wheelers were allowed at Southwick MA, ONE TIME in 30 years, and I think 6 guys showed up. I was hurt ATM and couldn't go, but Southwick was huge for ATC racing back in 1984/1985, it was the most amazing racing I had ever seen. Yet people 10 years older than me that live out West saw so much more...

Well, all good things must come to an end...... due to insurance not wanting to cover 3 wheelers, they had to stop racing them even though we've only had one injury all season. Compared to quads and dirtbikes that have multiple injuries every round. It just sucks because I've spent so much time and money putting this 350x together just to race this series.

Looking for a Bassani silencer for a 2nd gen tecate, the style with the movable mount. 1st gen will work
I can't believe here in 2023 there is still such a stigma against 3 wheelers. They are no more or less dangerous than anything with a motor, even an electric motor. I personally feel safer on a trike than most anything else...
