1986 Honda 250SX Oil filter cover bolts and threads

Hi I have a 1986 Honda 250SX and 2 of the 3 threads in motor case are stripped from those really fine threads on the bolts. The original owner over tightened them. I have never re tapped or made new threads with inserts and concerned about metal filings going into the crank case.

Any suggestions would be helpful how I can do this. It blobs out oil on a cold start and then it is ok while running.

    Thanks

I've had the same problem, I used heli-coils to repair, you don't really have to worry about metal filings as the holes are closed and cant fall into the crank case. Just be careful when drilling so you don't drill right through the case. I normally use a-lot of grease when doing like a stripped sump plug to catch up metal filings and then flush out afterwards.

Once you build up the confidence to try, you'll find that it's not too hard to do. I had to do the same thing on my 350X a few years back. It turned out great.
