im thinking of buying 1984 Yamaha Tri-Moto 175 2 stroke 3 wheeler , and i want to know how they work, if they work good or just a problem machine, any reviews, inputs, or comments would be excellent. thanks

well right now I am working on a complete rebuild.
When it was running, it ran alright, needed some carb work though.
I can't really say whether its a problem machine or not because I only drove mine for probably a total of say 4-6 hours before I decided to do a total rebuild. Some other people on this board may be able to help you like DanTenn
And Trikeaholic and a few other people with this machine.
The only thing I can say is if its a 84 then its a 125 not 175 unless its a 125 frame.... 175's were only made in 82-83.

I am looking to buy a 175 YTM too, and the frame sayz 84???....but the production might of been different here in Canada.

The seller sayz its a very solid trike and never had any problems. But that is still to confirm.

Not sure where the numbers are stamped on the tope end, but you might check the cc's to verify it being a 175. The 175's came with front suspension also. the only difference between the 82-83 175's is the addition of a vacuum fuel pump on the 83. I believe that holic stated the YT175 as the fastest hard tail (no rear suspension) trike manufactured. Mine will run down 200 cc machines (havent gone against a 200X though) with ease, and it is 100% stock. Holic has a bunch of aftermarket goodies on his, and he says it will kick a 200X's trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. Their fun, but I wouldnt break the bank buying one.

Holics is real fun. We found the thing sitting outsite some really nasty trailer next to a woodpile. He paid $20 for it.

Now is it has a aftermarket rear suspension, DG head, Bassani pipe, wheel spacers and little flat track rear wheels. You can get it to wheely into third gear. It beats our '86 200x pretty soundly.

There was an old magazine article where they used it as a project. Put a few IT200 parts on it (coverted it to a manual clutch i think... the boost box) and then put some real front forks on it from a dirt bike or something. In the old 200cc class I think it would have done really well.

yeah i am working on modding mine right now, and i am wondering if this engine will bolt in, what do you think ?? It almost looks like it will.
Does anyone know anything about the mx175 ? is it 5 or 6 speed? !!!

Yamaha didn't make a 1984,175 tri moto,They only made a 1984,YT125L tri moto.

It says the CC's on the lower left hand side of the cylinder.

Check behind the front headlight on the stearer stem.There should be a vin number there.It sounds like the cylinder head was changed,because that year they only made a yt125 tri moto.
