    This is what I would do, go to the hardware store and buy a very thin wall PVC tubing. Cut the tube in half or so that it fits around the shock around. Take a dremmel and cut notches in the pipe area so the zip ties wont slide around. Then mount the PVC on the forks and the number on top of that, then zip tie the plate on.
    I think I can visualize what you are saying. I do not suppose you have a photograph or a diagram would you? I like the sound if it.

    I see. That looks like a good idea. I take it that will help to prevent damage by giving the mounting surface some room to move, right? Did those pieces come with the plate originally? Or were they home made?
