OE Honda 5lb 1.0oz, AMS 5lb 14.2oz (has valve stem installed), OE Yamaha 7lb 10.8oz

The Yamaha wheel is heavy. I'll definitely change that out for something else if I replace the tires. It also doesn't have a bead lip. The Honda wheels use an inner ring for reinforcement, which I didn't weigh. The AMS doesn't need the ring. I've been running the AMS wheels for years and they've held up, plus the offset is just right. Not so wide I'm hanging trees on tight trails, but wide enough to noticeably better the handling. Super inexpensive too, to the point there's no reason to refinish a OEM wheel unless it's going on a restoration. https://www.amstires.com/products/?c...oductId=458657

There are some comments on the Deestone D929 tire that it's tiny and not to size. Virtually no knobby tires are to size. If they were actually 11" wide, they'd dang near rub the inside of the forks. The three knobbies I have mounted are a Kenda Scorpion, a Duro, and this Deestone. They're all between 9-10 inches wide with approximately the same pressure. The Deestone is actually closer to true height though, at more than 21 inches. The others are a little over 20 at the tread and all have practically full height tread. The Trailpros though...they're pretty much true width of 11", but on the YTM200E the right one dang near rubs the muffler, and in fact has at some point, before I replaced the worn out carrier bearings.

    If the true size thing is a shocker, remember, a 2x4 stud is actually 1 1/2" x 3 1/2".

I replaced the Butt Busters with the Deestones. Can't believe I put up with them this long. Horrible tire for a hardtail. Virtually no give unless flat. The D929 is very much like the Cheng Shin tire of the same style. If they age as well as the CS, I'll be really satisfied.

I am a big fan of the Ocelot Tire P318 on amazon they are very close to true to size 25x12-9
They are a 4ply tire, so they are very light, I could not find the specs on them, They are as light or very close to the deestones in weight, but they run very true to size.
Below is a 185 and a 250es both came factory with 25x12-9 as you can see they look period correct for a knobby.
At $55 a piece you can't go wrong.

I think tire weight is very important for these under powered machines by today's standards.

I can say that dropping ten pounds of rotating mass definitely made it accelerate quicker.

It's more squishy in the corners now, but I can deal with that. I was tired of dealing with rock hard, spine beating tires.

Heaviest tire I ever bought was a Holeshot HD, it was an 8 ply and twice the weight of a normal tire.

I got them after damaging a few sidewalls on the local powerlines, so if I ever plan a trip in the mountains, I'll pop them on there. Probably unavailable now...

The ply number is more of an archaic rating anymore, it's not the actual number of plies in the tread or sidewall like it used to be. I'm guessing there isn't much of a hard standard for ATV tires either, because the feel of different brands of tires can vary wildly even rated at the same ply.

A good review on the ride quality is the straightest answer you can get. The technical difference between modern two and four ply ATV tires is exceptionally blurry.

For instance, the Kenda Scorpion is rated as two plys, but it certainly doesn't ride like that with 2.5psi. They ride more like a four ply tire. I do like to use them as a front tire on front suspended hardtails, because they seem to wear better, have a slightly tougher sidewall and a little rim protection. I don't think I'd use them as a rear tire on a hardtail.

The Cheng Shin C829 rides much better, but wears faster. I haven't found them susceptible to sidewall cutting or tearing. I've ed the rims quite a bit on rocks and the tire sidewalls survive. I just went out and banged them on some rocks this weekend, and I mean using the sidewalls like part of the tread to get over some stuff. Slate may be a different story, but for the rocks here in Arkansas, they're more than adequate for a low power, relatively lightweight hardtail.

Any of the used tire I weigh, are clean on the inside of any sealant and the tread is clean of rocks, in a effort to get the most correct data. The used tires won't be weighed if the tread is significantly worn.
