about 70 75mph un hard pack when you could make em run ,---don't matter that they are liquids, they run freakin hot, unless its in pristine condition build a side hood scoop to help cool it down and don't run it when the temps are higher than 26-8 F.

Nice score man, I have a bunch of John Deere sleds as well. As far as the performance of the sled, that depends on which generation it is. Similar to how Honda had 3 generations for the 250R, Deere made 2 distinct Liquifires and they are pretty easy to distinquish.

1976-1978: These are powered by the CCW motor and have a heat exchanger that mounts on the tunnel under the seat. the 76 and 77 are black and silver, the 78's are black with a multicolored stripe that bends along the sides of the cowl and they also have a radiator on the right hand side. I've heard these sleds will do about 70-75 but like everything else it wouldnt be too hard to squeeze a little more out of them.

1979: as far as I know there was no 79 LF, if I'm wrong please correct me.

1980-1984: These are powered by the Kawasaki motor and have better acceleration, higher top speed, and better handling and suspension. If its an 84 they are extremely rare and I will be jealous as heck, lol. I have never owned one of this gen. but I am good friends with a guy who has a bunch of them, he tells me they will get you up around 85 or so if you have the room to do it. Keep in mind though, speedometers probably arent too accurate.

I think I wrote too much but I guess I've got a soft spot for the Deere's. I (and brother and dad) currently own:

    72 JD 400
    73 JD 400
    74 JDX4 Special
    74 JDX8
    76 JD Liquifire 340
77 JD Liquifire 440 (parts sled)
    79 JD Trail Fire 440

If you want to read up on the old Deere's or have any questions go to http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/jdsleds/ they have a bunch of info on them. I included a few pics from that site, let me know which generation LF you've got. post some pics!

my father had a "500" but it had a 440 in it. now not all liquides run bad just the sleds that are abused. i had a 79 blizzard 9500+ with a l/c 454 bored rotax and was riding all over the yard wen it was 80 out. it never over heated once. how ever i did hear the the liquids in the deers wer touchy. but ive never had a l/c deer before. but hell if its cheap enough get it. thosed deers are getting harder and harder to find in good running order.
down to parts because i no longer have a place to ride trikes.

    GIT IT RAAAGGGGG !!!!
