I'd bet money that is the same, or the same type of trike as 3Wheeling tested in February of '84. Its a Nick Nicholson frame, and swingarm. Its got the same space infront of the gas tank and the round tubing Champion-like swingarm. I've got that issue in my hand right now.

I remember reading about that trike in 3 Wheeling around 84 or 5. It has a Nicholson frame and was a project trike by the mag as a "Honda should build something like this" story. Nothing to do with Honda. I will try and find the story and scan it.

Even if it's not a factory prototype it sure is cool. And should make a great conversation piece at TF07! I dig the moly tube frame and swinger!

    Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s a Nicholson Frame!!!!!!!!!!!! Honda did NOT make that!!!!!! I've got photos from 3 Wheeling Magazine with a different one but the same. I've had a Nicholson frame for a 185s and the one way to tell is that the foot pegs supports/bar is welded on the same plane as the bottom engine cradle and is a single backbone. Also, the neck brace and the swingarm. Honda NEVER made that bike. Honda never releases proto-types to the public. The Nicholson used a 200X tank and rear fenders. Besides, Honda wouldn't go back in manufacturing technologies, tube construction on the swingarm ??? I've seen Honda Factory Race machines, and that ain't it.

It's a nice Nicholson trike! It has a 350X front forks and a 250r front fender. It’s clean! Not worth $4,500 though. And definitely NOT a " rare Honda proto-type"!

I'll find the Nicholson ad and the Baja coverage and post the photos tomorrow.

August 1983 issue of Dirt Wheels: Over the Bars section. Page 14. Not Your Ordinary 200X. Plus there is the Nicholson ad for the frame itself.

April 1984 Issue of Dirt Wheels: Specials II, Exotica Examined. Page 22.

Kasey: I Don't think its a 200x front end. The brake rotor is on the wrong side. The shocks have full dust caps on them and the axle is trailing, not leading.

I think it looks cool, but the front-end looks like it needs to be lower to balance the trike out a bit.
