Here's a few pics from my latest run; there's more in the thread below. I got to about 3000ft elevation! http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/s...6774post536774

I did some river crossing a few weeks ago; it still only floats without me on it. I kinda prefer it to sink; I run the snorkel and drive right through the deep stuff. With these tires my outside width is only 43 1/2 inches!

A 300cc SX has crossed my mind (someone here has done this conversion) but I think I would get a 2wd TRX300 and convert it into a trike. I do have an extra SX front end in my parts stash. If I do this I would have another machine too and I could make it blue!

I'd put a 300cc in my SX if I killed it's engine, and also the spare engine I have for it. But with how durable these engines are, I don't think it would happen for a long time.

man its gotta be that swinger, because I know 25" on my SX would rip the rear fenders off. Turned out well for ya

    Nice ride you have

Dude this is an awsome utility you have here. Takes me back a few years when I was terrin it up on an 86 250SX, nice work. I just went and picked up an 85 sx yesterday. I got it for $300 engine runs great downside; rear differential is jacked up and I think the axle is slightly bent (Thus my intrist in this thread), Upside; new seat cover and foam, new plastics front and rear, and new rims and rubber all the way around. The tires are a bit too big for my liking though, Good Year Rawhide MT/R 26x11R12 on 12x7.5 4/110 black steel dont know what make but brand new. there was about 1" of clearance between the fender and the tire. I traded them to a guy that had stock 07 Suzuki King Quad tires 25x11-12. I got an old set of stock rims and some used fast trakkers with it. I am going to keep the 26" good year on the front but I think I'll put the Stockers on the rear, the mudders are too skinny for me.

Well, I broke it! We were headed out to Knik Glacier a few weeks ago when we came to a drop in the trail. Basically just a three foot hill you can jump off of. It was an easy jump and easy landing; I heard a BOOM and then a rubbing/grinding noise. I stopped and saw that my rear rack was on my fenders which were on my tires! I thought I had blown the shock. Instead I found the front mount for my shock bracket had torn out of the swingarm and was completely destroyed! The shock was also jammed against part of the swingarm.

We were about twelve miles from the parking lot. My friends wouldn't be able to tow me very well with thier sport machines. Mine would still drive, but would have no suspension and would likely rip my factory fenders apart. After making fire and having a snack I came up with a trail fix to ride it home. I thought about jamming a piece of wood between the swinger and frame and riding hardtail back; I'm glad I didn't.

After using a big stick to knock everything back into place, I removed what was left of the forward mount and tied the mounting bolt to the swingarm itself. I added several bunjee ties to it and then wrapped it all together with my towrope. The machine sat a little low in back but I still had suspension and was able to ride it out with no problems whatsoever. I didn't really have to slow down too much and the rope stayed tight the entire way.

I had used a piece of square tube to make the mount. The wall thickness was probably only 16 guage. I couldn't put much weldment around it becuase the braket fits so snugly around the tube. I replaced it with two larger pieces of 3/16ths steel and capped those off with another pice of 3/16ths on the top. I welded it on the inner sides and what was open on the outsides. Becuase of the shape of the pieces it would take alot of force to break this again; the swingarm itself would have to deform. I don't think I will have any more trouble with this mount.

    Pictures!

Poor pic of the new mount; there's some snow on it.

I also put some screws in the tires for winter. It's ready to ride again!

wow absolutely sweet sx. The trx rear end really does the job. When you have time could you post some better pics of the bracket you welded b/c this looks like an awesome mod for and sx with a shot rear end.

I would like to change my rearwheels and front wheels from the stock22x11x8 tires to at least 25x12x9. Will these 9 inch wheels bolt on my stock 8inch hubs or do I just change hubs to match the desired 9"wheels???

Looks like I will have enough rear fender clearance how about up front will the 25x12x9 tire clear ok???

I need to change tires soon so this is an important initial step

    Thanks in advance

Awesome that it still fits in your ranger with the extended swinger! I have an 82' 200e and it only clears by a 1/2 inch or so. Great build, and great ingenuity on your trailside fix!

200SXRIDER - A 12'' wide tire will not fit the front. I don't think you will need to change hubs; just find the correct bolt pattern, 4-110. I can't say what will fit the SX rear; all of my driveline is TRX. I don't know if 25's will clear everything on a stock SX. Do keep in mind the TRX swinger I use is 3'' longer than the SX swinger.

mullet - Thanks. It is nice keeping the tailgate up; that Ranger is a longbed (7ft) so that helps.

So... the swinger adds 3'', the tires add another 1.5'' in length... that means my machine is about 6'' longer than a stock SX!

I'm finally getting around to sprucing up my 250sx. I do have some fuel tank repair, and swingarm damage that I will post about later. I was just working on cleaning things up for new swingarm bearings and races. The tube in the frame where those bearings reside has two, about 1/4", holes in the back of it. They are just to the left and right of that holder for the engine vent tube. I am not wrapping my mind around why those holes are there. If they were drains they ought to be in the bottom of that tube. There are no other holes in that tube to any other parts of the frame. Over time water has crept in, rusted out the grease covers behind the bearings and washed out the bearings. There's some pitting from corrosion in the bottom of that tube, but not too much.
Any reason not to weld the holes shut? Maybe they are there to accommodate changes in air pressure? What say the 3WW?

I tap those 1/4 28 (whatever it is) for a grease fitting, knock out both caps and fill the void with a wodden or plastic dowel or you'll need 10lbs. of grease....
