I know this bike is finished but is there any updated pics of it? And have you thought of having a chromoly version of this frame made?

someone said this trike is heavenly but I have to disagree that is a demon seed sent straight from HELL to make every trike lover Jealous!!!

Amazing work. you have an obsession!!
My favorite parts are the red accents the sprocket, shifter, levers. very Subtle! I built a MTN bike with the same colors, and can only dream of getting my Tri-Z in those colors, what did you use to paint the plastics and why? I have good black plastic just sun beaten I am wondering what options there are to bring them back to life,
thank you for the attention to detail not only in the build but in your response aswell truely you are a good man..

when you get bored of her go ahead and Anodize the rims and tripples in red, and shes sold!!!

    Great work!!

awesome build...a great read too. Makes me want to build a true custom rather than a hopped up, mostly stock machine. This site and it's members truely are the best, if it's trike related, no need to check anywhere else. well done....

Followed this build in the process but didnt comment? Maybe because I was too busy drooling! Awesome trike Gordon! Never saw the aluminum tank till now, but Jason did a killer job on it. You two are craftsmen for sure!

Read through the thread again today, it is such a beautiful bike. I like it so much better than the rest of the 450 trikes. It is because of the 250r being the starting point rather than going the 450 quad/dirtbike route.

I was never a fan of painting plastic, but it has worked so well. It gives the bike a great OEM look rather than the "im covered in maier poo" look.

The forks, triple clamps, front brakes..... Are Phenomenal.

Even after years, this trike is it. Top notch job you've done.

Not sure anyone is still watching this thread, but would using the motorcycle top end and carb (or just plain use the whole 450x engine) have allowed the tank and frame to not need to be cut?

    Some improvements

Wow, been a while since I posted on this thread and to think it's been 7 1/2 years since the thread started - where does the time go?

Well, there's been a few revisions to the bike since the original build so I thought I would take some time out to update the thread for anyone who may be interested.

On the last run out ( end of last year ) on the beach the bike overheated and blew the water hose so on investigation I think the problem was more to do with the rear tyres ( fast trackers) than an engine issue. So I will run the OEM 450 rears on the beach from now on.
While looking into the issue I decided to make some improvements to the water system to hopefully assist in the cooling of the bike. Those in the know will be aware of the fact the engine is from a 2006 TRX 450eR so the engine came from a quad which had a radiator fan installed as standard. Putting the engine into the 250R chassis means I lose the original radiator and radiator fan.

Therefore I decide I would make a 3 stage improvement, mainly to reduce water temp from radiated heat from the exhaust effecting the water hose.

Step 1 - Design Engineering Titanium Exhaust Wrap

Step 2 - Design Engineering Versa Shield

Step 3 - Radiator fan with Digital Temp sensor - http://www.trailtech.net/electrical/digital-fankit

On initial testing (tick over) the fan is working perfectly keeping the temp at -+ 190 DegF , I will see how things transpire.

Another couple of changes were to the upper top tube, in order to get the OEM carb to fit I removed part of the top tube which can be seen in the first pages of the thread.

On re examing this issue I decided to cut the top of the OEM carb, this made it possible to get it almost under the top tube, but not quite. So I cut of the intake manifold machined an angle to it then welded it back on in situ (couldn't be bothered removing the engine), this put the intake at a more downward angle which helped to put the carb at an angle which made it fit under the top tube.
So, now the carb would fit I returned the top tube back to normal.
