wow what an idiot, that turbo is so huge i bet it isnt even hitting 3psi. Nice idea but i bet you cant even find a turbo small enough for a 250cc engine, let alone make it work correctly.

Looks slow doesn't it? Maybe the weight of the turbo countered any little bit of boost it created?

I'm actually thinking that a turbo would rock behind the expansion chamber of a two stroke. Granted, you'd have to have an awful small turbo, but you could pack more mix into the motor in the same power band and probably produce a fair shake more power. It might only really work on the 500s due to the size of the turbo, but there's a chance you could find something small enough. I've seen video of a turbo Hyabusa and that thing was seriously sick.

Trying to keep the crank seals intact would be a task in its self
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

the crank seal issue was solved by cuttign a snap rign grove in the banshee cases to help hold the pressurized crankcases. and i think we were abel to sucessfully run up to 14 or so lbs of boost and be semi reliable.

Did the turbo make much of a difference on the 2 stroke though? It seems like having a turbo would defeat the purpose of the expansion chamber. Since the expansion chamber already stuffs the gases back into the cylinder if it is done properly, what kind of advantage would the turbo add? That is why it was so hard to tune I guess but didn't you have to basically tune the turbo 'out of it" so to speak to get it to work properly?

The purpose of the expansion chamber is to optimize the _flow_ of gasses through the engine at a specific RPM. It has nothing to do with the _volume_ of gasses. Once the exhaust gets past the expansion chamber it is just like any other exhaust. Catching it to spin a turbo, and using that to get a bigger BANG each revolution still works like it would in a 4 stroke. I'll agree that the bigger bang would try to spin the motor faster and thus get it off the pipe quicker at the top of the power band, but some gears would take care of that. In other words, you could tweak your gearing a tooth or two and gain a crapload more speed at the same RPM because the bike would have enough huff to turn the bigger gears.

You'd probably have to drive it like a ricer though and make sure you had the turbo spooled before you dumped the clutch or else it would bog from the taller gears.
