I am looking to purchase a factory Honda works ATC, 200x, 200R, 250R. Anyone know what happened to the atc's ridden by Team Honda in the early to mid 80's by Marty Hart, Mike Coe, Dean Sundahl, Curtis Sparks, Mikey Dunlap, Steve Wright, etc,? Any leads, info appreciated. Please email me if you have any information.

Honda was very protective of their machines. There are no legitimate Honda Factory 3 Wheelers out there (might be wrong but I doubt it). If it was a joint effort with Honda and Nicholson or something like that you may have a chance, but doubtful. The other factory bikes, Yamaha and Kawasaki didn’t destroy their machines. Most of them, the riders sold them off to finance the next year's season.
I worked at Fay Meyers Honda in Colorado, the largest Honda dealer in the state, and had talked with the US Honda rep from when He'd come to Colorado. I've been on a search for a few of the factory machines and always hit a dry hole. A few of the machines are in the Honda Museum in Japan, but the rest were made into toasters or something.
The joint effort machines are almost impossible to get a hold of. I've been tiring to get Tracy Dickson's 3B 125 for 5 years now, no luck yet. Eddie Sanders RM 250 Nicholson 3 wheeler would be another one that I'd give a left nut for.
There a allot of people that claim to have rare Honda machines, 500R's, '87 250R's, and other rare machines but always have an excuse as to why they can't or won't show them. Most of the stories like that are bull****! And they don't have what they claim. I have some rare ones that are in various stages of completion (to many to work on, no time! I should have started one and finished it.) And will have a few of them done in the next few months.
I've done endless searches and $1,000 + in long distance phone calls trying to track stuff down. I can say that I've found one, that I working on and hope to have in 30 days, that will blow your mind.
Don't give up hope but this is the wrong place to ask. Most people here are just like you and if they knew of one would be all over it. Read some mags and make some inquires. Most all of the machines you'd be looking for are all 22 to 28 years old. Some are lost, some forgotten.

I believe we are thinking the same thing....and I, too hope he decides to stay awhile.
I've made a few big mistakes when it comes to letting go of or passing up a potentially valuable 3-wheeler. One most related to the topic would have been an R that I could have bought for $1200 in '86 or '87.
It had low profile fenders, extended axle, short-track tank kit, aftermarket swingarm, Paul Turner exhaust/Paul Turner's marks on the jug, and no serial number. I was told then that it was a Team Honda practice machine/or of Team Honda origin.
I wouldn't have given it much thought if it hadn't been for the lack of a serial number with no evidence of alteration. It seems like, if I remember correctly, it had some other marks starting with "HR", but that's been a long time ago.
The seller was really involved in racing back in the day, and had money to burn, so it may very well be that he somehow got ahold of a special machine. I'll ask him about it the next time I see him, but the chances of tracking that one down are nill.

Welcome Scott! I was searching for your last name, but it's hard to find many references to Phase Five nowadays.
I was overworking the last few good brain cells I have left trying to remember exactly what machine I had when I last called PF Racing back about '85 or so comparing pipes. (Remember now it was for a 350X...not an R), and if memory serves me right, I talked with you.

Mickey Dunlap wrote in a magazine article about the factory trikes. He was shown riding a 200r, well over 20g's honda spend into it. When asked what happened to the bikes. He told them most met the crusher after stopping of atc racing and usefull lives of the one-off bikes. He wrote in exriders about the prototype 350x he ridden, he commented that met the crusher also. I bet there still are some around, either in the mechanics personal collections or muesuems.

Thanks everyone! I look forward to checking the forumn daily! The ATC racing days were a great time, I have lots of stories, info I could share. I'm no stranger to finding bikes. A lot of those bikes claimed to be crushed - never made it to the crusher. You'd be surprised what's out there. We've found lots of works Honda RC motocrossers also. Back to ATCs, remember when the 200x came out, I think we sold around 1,000 or more pipes for those if I remember right. What a great machine to make parts for. Master cylinder guards, low profile rear fenders, louvered front fenders, man, its all coming back to me, hahaha
