Nice work.Honestly I cant see anything that is not OEM specicfic.
When you do one of these, do you buy Brand new OEM carbs and whatever is available?
Do you take a 86 engine and refinsh it and go thru the whole engine?
Or is this like NOS and crate stuff that you rounded up?
Or do you start with nice foundation and just refurbish the hard parts?
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

this bike I started with was the one my customer sent me its was definitley not my first choice of a good foundation , a total bone, had alot of aftermarket junk on it and in rough shape . so what i did as with basically any resto is strip it down and inventory what is OEM and restorable , the aftermarket parts go in the trash and any missing or damaged OEM parts i put on a hit list for me to search down . not as many nos parts as it looks like on this bike almost all of this bike is original parts restored to new condition . things like the plastic , tires, fork boots , tailight , grips , switches etc are nos , the engine was fully torn down and fully rebuilt with cases being refinished before assembly to maintain the factory gasket lines etc . its alot of work but very rewarding when done . thank god for guys parting perfect mint bikes out on ebay gives us restorers a chance to find what we may need ..

    thanks mike

Wow, that is a insane amount of work and dedication to basically re-use 80% of the foundation and bring it all back to that OEM look.

    Once again nice job!

    Looks Great Mike,
I have had Mike do 3 motors for me already and to see them in the flesh is a real treat. The pictures dont do them nearly AS MUCH justice as they deserve.

Mike down the road I will have to have you do my 86 motor R for sure.

With some of the 86R stuff I got lucky a few years back, I scored an NOS swinger, axle, grab bars skid plate, Front wheel with the pro-vector tire, A very helpful bud even sent me a take off embossed headlight. I have a great start and it looks nice in the shop but it needs the full restore treatment.

A Perfect 86 R is one of the most beautiful beasts out there.

Again Kudos to Mike at Vintage!!!!!!

    thanks guys,

this one is all paint done by me , dupont 2 stage base clear, engine is a single stage laquer to get that factory low gloss sheen . , after i had the fork lowers and the triple trees polished i put a scotchbright finish on them and these parts did get powder cleared as the powder clear bonds to smooth aluminum way better than liquid paint . alot of my engines are done in powder coat if i can find the correct color , you cant beat the look of paint though .

Bills right the 86 250r in a full OEM resto state is by far the nicest ATC out there ,

The first time I ever saw a water cooled 250r was in the fall of 1984, a couple months before I got my brand new 1985 200x. I had never seen one before, not even in magazines yet. I just walked in and there it was up on a riser at the Honda dealer. I just about crapped my pants.

Is that a new style 34mm PJ carb from Honda? The old style oem fuel inlet was always horizontal instead of vertical. Very sharp build!! Like a timewarp..
