    250r clutch?

Im getting ready to go threw my 85 R and was wondering what was the best set up for the clutch? The basket is grooved and the lever pulls hard. Should I just go with a billet basket and the 89 upgrade kit?

how much do you wanan spend i ahve a full hinson se tupin my atc with the 89 parts, works great but if you want a cheaper route machne or file the groves flat ther emay be a slight bit of chatter but nothgin to be worried about i ahve done it many times befor ebut i alsu use the 89 trx clutch it has one more fiber and 1 more steel plate ibelive to disperse heat bette rbut it is slightly thinner and i also add small washer under th ebolt head and clutch spring to increase the tension and its amazign what a new cable and a rtc or pep easy pulllever ( with the cr250 geometry) willdo .

I think Hinson and Wiesco, maybe Barnett, are the only ones that offer the billet basket for the 85-86 R..
Any other R basket will fit, but the 85 and 86 had a different Primary crank gear that was straight cut.
When mated with the newer style baskets, the 85 crank Primary gear would rub on the thicker billet newer syle basket, and cause some shavings in the motor.
So to run a TRX basket, you have to run the TRX primary crank gears, or remove the 85 primaray gear and have the edges beveled back about .070".
I have pics if you need to see what I am talking about.

    Let's see those Pictures - MoshMan ...

I also Notice - the Barnett Billet Clutch Basket has Steel Plates inside for Better protection against Groves ...

    Hinson Doesn't have this feature.

    Any one have Barnett's Clutch Kit's & Billet Basket's ? ?

That'd be great. I have been planning to do a billet basket on my R and I assumed that I had all the parts I needed since I have the basket and an 89 update kit.

i remember on one of the motor's that you have to grind the Spar gear or else it will rub on the basket like Mosh said ... Freaksfix ..... PLEEZZZZZZZZZZZ
Run with the "89" OEM Fiber's along with the Barnett Spring's !!

What about the steels? Do you have to run the extra friction plate in there with the 89 basket? I'm so confused now and I thought I had it all figured out.

NO EXTRA nothing ... same as 85-89 ... it's just that the "89" fiber's are closer notched for BETTER grab

Ah, OK. I don't know why but I got the impression that the later motors had an extra friction and steel in them.

What do you suggest as far as steels go? I think I still have my stock aluminum ones as well as the kevlar frictions and steels that have been in there forever.

Well these are the only pics I have.
I know 85 has this problem for sure.
I have heard of a 86 ATC engine having the same problem in the trike motor.
First pic Shows My finger pointing at the crank gear that needs beveled back for clearance. This gear is stock in this pick, not relieved.

The next 2 pics are the "scalloping" the Crank Primary gear makes on the basket, if it isn't relieved.
It puts shavings in the trans oil.
You have to look close were the gear meets the basket. You will see marks in the basket from the rubbing of the improper primary gear.

I have to look up my pricing on the whole deal Freaks.

Thanks so much Mosh. Just one more stupid question now. Is the gear that you're pointing to in the first pic the only one that needs to be changed? Can I just order that gear for an 89 TRX and be done with it? What about doing it the ghetto way and putting the stock ATC gear in a drill and spinning it so I can grind it down against a piece of emery cloth?

Thanks for your help and I apologize to the thread starter if this is coming off as a hi-jack of his thread.
