    TRX450R muffler on 350X......

    Hey folks!
    New member here.
'85 ATC350 and PROUD of it.
My bike came with a JUNK, way-too-loud no-name silencer on it so I went on the prowl for a new one.
Not wanting to spend big money on another too-loud one, I drove over to my brother's house.....to get some measurements off of his brand new 450R.
    Guess what....450R mufflers WILL fit.

I picked my "ridden twice"/Perfect/LIKE NEW unit off of Ebay for $31.49 including shipping and headpipe (which I didn't use).
STAINLESS STEEL and Honda quality through and through.
I only had to do a TINY bit of welding to mount it and it looks/fits FANTASTIC.

    Quiet? OH YEAH?
I'm sure there is a herd of folks wondering......
Did I lose any power? Not that I can feel.
    Think of it this way.....
Honda put that beauty on it's baddest of the bad 4 wheeler.....you think they make it restrictive? The answer is NO.
I'm thrilled, it was an inexpensive fix and it looks GREAT!

    Check out the pic.
Let me know what you think.
    Thanks again, folks!
    MO350X

P.S. There were a few more stock 450R mufflers/headpipes on Ebay when I got mine. CHEAP, too.

Can you post some close up's of the mods that you did have to make. That pipe sure looks good on that x.

    450R Muffler Install pics.....

    Okay...here goes:
    1. Rear mounting bolt: I welded on a bolt to the original grab bar to use as a mounting "stud" (see pic). Those with aluminum grab bars COULD drill a hole and just put bolt through the hole tightening with nuts....unless you're lucky enough to have a TIG welder just "laying around".
    2. "Mid-Pipe" mod: I cut the forward/middle portion of my old junk silencer and used it. The only mod I had to do with it was cut a SLIGHT "pie" shape out of it to sharpen the angle that the pipe met the new muffler. EASY weld/mod with a wire-feed welder and SawZall (or cut-off wheel?). This MAY NOT have to be done with different brands of mufflers OR even stock muffler/pipe. But I can't say for sure.
    3. Rear Master Cylinder Resovoir Mount: Bend it's mounting bracket slightly rear/inward for resovoir and hose clearance (see pic).

NOTES: STOCK head pipe is NOT modified. The 450R muffler comes with an awesome GRAPHITE seal inside the area where the clamp is AND the clamp is fantastic. Try and save everything you can! You won't regret it!

All I can say is take your time and make 'er fit and seal TIGHT.
    This isn't brain surgery!
It took me 2 hours to do the WHOLE job: start, finish, clean-up.
And I DO NOT have a shop; just me and my creative mind in my garage.

Keep telling yourself......A Stainless HONDA replacement muffler for CHEAP (got mine for $31.49 TOTAL) and two hours of my time? Oh yeah! Worth every minute.

By the way....this muffler MAY fit other models....for the quality of construction and the availability of them used, it's WELL worth the effort.
We may as well cash in on those silly 450R folks "throwing them away"!

Thanks for all the interest, folks.
Hope this helps keep many more trikes on the trail!

from this angle it looks like the tire will hit it. As far as looks it's kinda sweet. It's got the crotch rocket can look.

    Don't worry....it won't hit.....

    Hey all!
    Don't worry..it won't hit the tire.
    PLENTY of space.
    Sorry about the picture angle.
I posted a picture to better show that fact.

    I hear you....it's a biggen.
I like to think of it as the "CBR900R look".
But it's 100% Honda quality, 100% stainless Steel, it flows well and it's QUIET to boot!
    It's NOT heavy, either.
It's heavier than my old silencer but the oldie was a no-name, loud piece of JUNK.

    Glad to be of help.
    Any more questions?
    Don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome to the boards MO! Great tip you posted...Im sure other 350s have wanted something than a loud Cobra/DG pipe for a while now.

And since the stock 450R muffler fits...that means just about every aftermarket slip-on muffler for the 450R should fit too. I, myself, have been wondering if the universal Whitebrothers E-Series could fit.
[20:55] <waterpumper> putting a racing pipe on a Foreman is like putting a high dollar bikini on a 400 pound chick...just because it fits doesn't mean it looks cool

Hey fellow Missourian! Have you had the chance to bottom it off a big jump? Just wondering if it will hit the caliper.
