    new project ytm225

i had this bike for a few weeks now and originally was going to do a frame up restore, but its to much fun to just look at(2nd gear wheelies from dead stop),so i decided to just get it mechanically sound and ride the sh-t out it.in the next couple of months i plan on redoing the whole engine, few goodies that will be going into it: big bore, torque cam,few megacycle goodies, oversized raptor 250 intake valve, supertrapp with larger head pipe and try drafting the blaster clutch to 225.here's a few pics.

Nice looking 225. I'm from LA too and I never come across these. Did you get yours in LA ? Know of any around for sale?

curious to know what you'll be doing to big bore? what size bore in mm's. also, got any info on the larger intake valve? what other megacycle goodies besides maybe a cam?

if you cross reference the ytm225 intake valve part number,it will show that it fits many bikes, like the yfb/ytm250,xt250,ttr230,and raptor 250,well kibblewhite makes an oversized intake valve for the raptor 250 and this is the one i will be using.

as for the exhaust im going to buy a supertrapp slip on and bend my own head pipe once i figure out the correct diameter for a performance engine.

as for big bore im going to use the timberwolf 250 cylinder with a 72mm wiseco piston.

sounds like you've been doing some research. the oversized intake valve sounds nice and should help with air flow if you do some porting.

i have some brand of aftermarket pipe on my 86 225, the header is much larger than stock. i'll take some measurements of the header O.D for you.

i too have thought of the timberwolf cyl as i believe its 1 mm larger stock than the 225, however, i have yet to find a high comp piston to fit the timberwolf or the beartracker. in fact, i think the stock comp ratio on the beartracker is 8.8 to 1 and the 225 stock is 9 to 1. i have only been able to find wiseco's for the timber and bear in stock comp ratio and they offer a 10.25 to 1 for the 225.

i did alot of looking into this bore thing as i've had several 225's and love them, i dont think you get this thing to much more than 230 cc's. not a whole lot of gain for the money.

with that being said, all these mods wont do much with the tiny stock carb and super restictive air box.... K&N clamp on or maybe a UNI clamp on, sure but you wont be crossing any deep streams.lol none of these mods will make this thing any faster either, this is where the real challange come in. maybe some differential gears from something else will fit???

good luck with you project, i'll be wathing this.

i see what you are talking about with the timberwolf 250 wiseco piston.so to get 10.25:1 compression i will be using the ytm 225 max bore piston which is 71mm,this will put the timberwolf at std bore.

yeah, you can just bore your stock 225 cyl to the 71mm piston, wont be to difficult and you can save the coin from purchasing the timber or bear cyl.

then the 225 would be on max bore,i already have a complete non running timberwolf for a donor.looks like i will be using the webcam goodies since they have more performance parts available.
