unhappy with atc 70 disk brake hub

I bought one of these front hubs for a "little" project I have going http://www.hondaatc70.com/Pages/FrontDiscBrake.aspx I had them send it unwelded so that it could be custom fit for my application. I was pretty excited about getting this and buttoning up my project.my excitement was short lived when I received it. When I spoke with them before I ordered it the person I spoke with was going on and on about all the machine work that goes ito this hub so I was expecting a quality part. What I recieved was 5 bucks worth of steel tubing with 20min. tops of machine work to bore the ends.which is pretty much what I figured it would be,no big deal. also in the box was a paper thin bicycle rotor that I'm not very pleased with. the real kicker is the wheel hub which is just a piece of 3/8 mild steel plate cut on a torch table (apparently with a dirty tip) the hole in the center is rough enough that it won't even go on the center tube. When I called to order this he said the parts are always on the shelf ready to assemble but when I called to express my displeasure and to return the parts he told me there is no returns on custom parts. Correct me if I am wrong but arent they off the shelf parts and not custom until they are welded? When I brought up the roughness of the wheel hub he told me that they a cut on a state of the art laser table. so my next question was if you have access to a laser why would you use a bicycle rotor and not make a custom rotor? He assured me that they are top quality shimano rotors. my daughters 79.00 walmart bike has shimano parts! but he says that he has never heard of one failing and he does stoppies on his 177cc atc70. I don't trust it myself and will probably have to have a custom rotor made. so all in all I am stuck with this hub that didn't even come with wheel studs. It will work out for my project in the end but at 220 some odd dollars I feel a bit taken. This just my experience with them and I'm sure others have been happy with theirs but I'm not sure I would buy from them again.the packaging was second to none also,it looked like they went digging in the trash for packing materialsClick image for larger version.

That hub is completely unacceptable for being laser cut !!! I can make cleaner cuts freehand with oxy-acetelyne.

I guess they are calling it custom order since they didn't weld it? Dunno. That sounds kind of backwards if you ask me. You can clean that hub up with a sanding disc on a grinder, you shouldn't have to do that for $220 though! If they would have cleaned that up first you might not have even mentioned it.
The cost alone keeps me from ever trying that kit but thanks for sharing. They have some real high dollar stuff there.
I wouldn't mind trying a front disc on one of my 70s but it would likely all be made by me. Probably adapt a set up from something else.
    Good luck with it.

I'm personally done with them. You can drop several grand in a month and they still manage to forget parts. Good news is a month and a half later finally got everything.

Talking about the build quality, I got their exhaust and economy muffler and it fits together like tossing a hot dog down a hall way with nothing provided to take up the slop. Best $200 ever spent

Sounds like they are using the same business model that Clarke follows. When we as a group finally stop supporting these companies that produce sup-par products maybe they will wake up and step up the quality and customer service or they will be out of business.

I guess I'm not allowed to share my disgust with atc70.com over at 3wo. they edited my thread on there and moved it somewhere where it will never be seen. also they sent me a pm asking not to mention atc70.com. Oh well what are ya gonna do apparently they support shady business practices. It took about 1hr of machine work just to get these sub par parts to even fit together and that walmart bicycle rotor went to a more appropriate place.

sorry you had trouble. yea i liek to use a palce called tboltusa.com. They are much better priced and offer much better custoemr service in my opinion. they may not have al the extra "70" stuff, but they do offer lots of stuff still.

Yeah Ben, they feel free to edit posts whenever they feel like it over there.

I did some work and got a 81 or 82R front hub made up with a disc. I haven't even looked at it; I have to get back at it.....
