    3wheelmecca's 1964 C-30

So I thought I would post these up for 3wheelmecca, as he didn't get any pics today. We had to go pick up his new truck today(needs a bit of work lol) and did a few things on it. It is a 1964 (I think) Chevy C-30 one ton dually.

Loaded on the rental trailer, behind my truck (K2500 3/4ton, Detroit Diesel, 5spd)

    Unloaded at 3wheelmecca's house:

3wheelmecca gettin' it raaag with the gas axe on the bed, after removing all the rotten nasty wood. Note the "proper application of safety gear", also I'm not quite sure what's up with the facial expression.

    you, flatbed!

    More pics

So, comments? Any bets as to how many trikes we can load onto it?

Are you sure it's a sm465 a truck that old came with a sm420. SM465's did not start till 1968.

Another cool thing would be to get a 14 bolt rear axle and front brake setup from a mid 80's dually. Way stronger rear with better brakes and disc brakes up front.

Yeah, just found out about the SM420 (7.something: 1). I put in a seat from an '09 Ford Super Duty XL and made a shifter knob from a real Pineapple handgrenade (dead). I am working on getting the wiring figured out and the master cylinder replaced due to mass rustiness and out of round bore.
I really want to put an NV4500 in it and be done, I will have Granny gear and OD.

The plan is to first take out some of the rear leaves (there is seriously like 8 main leafs, and 8 overload leafs) and see if it drops a bit. Then possibly cut a coil or two off the front springs.

Even better, put in one of these: http://advanceadapters.com/category/...derdrives.html
(you probably couldn't even find a used 4500 for that price, Riverside would probably be the only place, and we both know how super cheap their prices are)

How awesome (yet slightly annoying) would it be to drive with one of those, 8 speeds through 2 sticks, win. I want to get one for my truck, whoever decided that a 1/2 ton needed a T-18 must've been high.

Most FE Trucks had T18's, just surplus is my guess.
I have lower than 5.13 in the rear.
syko, I am not running big rims, just a set of take off duallies that dont have split rims like these.
an OD unit would be nice, but the $$
I might be able to find an NV at Andersens, in an early 90's CK.

Most FE truck's that I've had or seen have had the NP435... not the T-18...very similar transmissions gear wise, but very different case wise...

Really, all I've seen are T18's. Dang. Thats really cool.
I am planning on running a flatbed again, but made of 2X6es Newrider finds at jobsite dumpsters in his subdivision. How many trikes do you think I could fit on it??

    Updated pics.

    Donkey-crusted rear end and motor:

The seat that will be making its way into the truck shortly...

Shift knob, and steering wheel with authentic patina...

Removing the overload spring perches with the hot wrench. Seriously, wtf were they hauling with this thing that required so many springs???

Also started on the flatbed, using wood appropriated from local construction site dumpsters. There will be three sections, to contour to the way the rear frame kicks up. Finished the first section today.

(no really, look at that rear spring pack. OVERKILL)

We also found out that the frame has apparently been stretched at some point, the big straight part of the frame rail behind the cab has a huge plate gusset on the outside.
Also finally figured out where the starter wiring had been cut, and got it wired back in enough to turn the motor over. Still no spark though, so instead of screwing with the points mess, the plan is to just drop in a later model HEI distributor.

    Any comments?

Well, today went better than expected. Newrider scored a LOT of 2X4 and some 2X6 boards. We started on the flatbed. I took apart the doors to fix the window cranks, and door handles. I also had a 350 HEI lying around, so I rebuilt that, cap and rotor, cleaned up. it is a 1 wire hookup and more HP+not burning upness than the Delcotron Points system. I got it to turn over and it has very good compression. I finally got a gas tank, stock, and installed it behind the seat. Also, I commenced in scraping the crust off the rear end. Newrider got busy on some wiring and taking the perches off for the overloads, they were riveted on there. A Gas Axe does really well on taking off rivets Next up is getting the HEI in and getting it running. More overload springs than your body can handle, insane! The steering is like Kirstie Allie, out of line. I have a quarter turn free play on the wheel.
I love that shifter, looks mean.

It was waaay too huge, weighed about 1000lbs, and the steel crossmembers were completely rotted out in addition to the wood. We didn't originally intend to cut it up, but it got stuck between the frame, leaf spring, and overload perches on one side, and we couldn't get it out. We had to use a truck just to move the pieces out of the way, it was so heavy it is ridiculous.
IMO it also looked ghey, too reminiscent of the lawn care company that owned the truck at some point. 3wheelmecca would've gotten the talked out of him at school if he drove up with that huge thing on there.

We should still be able to fit his two R's and Tecate 3 on there with the new flatbed design.
