Is there any diagrams to go by when going through a carb on 81 185s? I just want to make sure I don't skip over something I should do while it is apart. I am looking at getting a Shindy kit off of ebay. Thanks.

carbs are really simple. you should not have a problem. but you can find most manuals on this site. good luck!

Yeah I almost forgot I had a manual, sorry about that. I feel stupid now. What was the factory main jet? 98? The reason I am taking the carb apart to do an overhaul is 1. It needs it 2. It over fuels no matter what I do(making plug very black). I think somebody changed the jet on it. Will a kit come with the standard size jet? Thanks.

look in the fuel system chapter. it should be in the first page under general info.

also, did you clean/replace your airfilter first? Make sure your carb can get plenty of air. Good Luck

Ok I took the carb apart to see what the inside looked like. Its pretty dirty. Found some other things that might be causing problems to. Somebody used lots of gasket sealer, anit-surge baffle is gone, the main jet in it is a 95. Still not sure what the main jet should be, I dont have complete manuals just some pdfs. I am going to have problems with the aint-surge baffle being gone? Thanks.

My 185 would idle really high without that on.

I got the carb back together with the old parts. I cleaned all the holes in the brass tube that the main jet screws into. I cleaned all the holes in the other brass tube(secondary jet?), some of the holes were clogged, its the one that is just pressed into place and has a hole at bottom. Took out pilot screw and idle screw cleaned them. Soaked body in carb cleaner. Float and needle looked ok(no fuel in float). Checked to see if it was sealing my blowing into fuel line while holding up float, that checked ok.

Trike runs alot better now, but I still have a black spark plug from to much fuel. Doesn't rev up high at idle. Yall know more about this than me do I need a different jet than the 95 thats in it now? Where would I get an anti-surge baffle? All I know to do is to go ahead and still buy a kit for it.

You can buy the jets from any bike shop for cheap. you can look on the jets and find the size. I dont know if you can order the collar from honda shop. Look in the world class help section for a good thread on jetting. You should check bikebandit for the collar. Good luck.

Don't want to sound stupid but I just want to be sure. Smaller jet smaller number, bigger jet larger number?

Where would be a good place to order a carb kit and the jets? I noticed on ebay most of them say "comes with everything included in pic" and nothin in the pic looks like its for a 185s carb.
