The weekend of August 22-23 will be the 2nd annual OTC Jamboree. Last years event was a great success and gave us an “in” to the Lightning Raceway facility. The place is open all year round, and offers lots of trail raiding as well as an MX track. The track and trails are always open until dark except when they are being used in regularly scheduled competitions. Some members will be rolling in Friday afternoon, and Friday and Saturday are pretty much open track and trail riding. The track will close about 6pm Saturday for Sunday race prep. Sunday will be a regularly scheduled CRA race event on the MX track. (Trails are still open.) This event will include two 3-wheeler classes (A and B) 3-wheeler classes will not require a CRA card. All other classes will. As always, gear is required – helmet, eye protection, long sleeves, long pants, boots that cover ankles. NO ALCOHOL BEFORE RACING. Save your pain management beer for afterwards. Also last year they asked if we wanted a pit trike class, but we were all pretty well tapped out. Is there an interest in unsuspended 125cc or smaller? Helmet is required on any running machine at all times, regardless of whether you’re riding, tuning, dragging firewood, or going to the john. Please don’t tear up the grassy areas, and use caution in those areas, as there will be little kids riding around.

Last year he let us do night rides provided we were relatively quiet, and in by 11:00 or 12:00. I’m sure he will do the same this year. The owner lives there. Campers should be considerate. Screaming, yelling, loud, obnoxious, drunken idiots will be sent on their merry way, or inexplicably found at the bottom of a ravine. Responsible consumption of alcohol is permitted in the camp if discreet. (coozy)

This is a family oriented event. There will be young kids there. I strongly encourage others to bring their kids. They love riding around together and have more fun when others are present. The camp area has a wide range of visibility, and little kids can continuously ride around all day for some distance and still remain in sight. Mark’s daughter went through multiple tanks of gas riding non-stop. I would also remind all adults to please look around adjust their vocabulary in the presence of listening children. I know first hand that most parents are not crazy about bringing their small children to an environment where they will be bombarded with a barrage of f-bombs, and children don’t become riders at home with the babysitter.

Trails vary from easy to difficult. There is even open field across the road. There are some tough woods trails. Everything eventually circles the camp area. TimJr and I have also laid out a big course we call the “Hard Tail Loop”. It takes one hour on the 125’s if you don’t stop, and is challenging, but not dangerous, and made with small trikes, and mini quads in mind.

Fee for Lightning is $10 per day, per person. Camping is free. Racing is $20 per class. Firewood (slab wood) is free, and in huge piles. You just need to cut it up. We always have a couple chainsaws there, and a few people with straps can drag plenty of firewood, and cut it up in about 20 minutes.

Last year we had over 40 people, 3 young kids, a couple older ones, 12 MX racers, and not a single jerk in the mix. We are committed to a continuation of quality events, and will do whatever it takes to keep them that way for the benefit of anyone who wishes to be a part of it. If you need more info you can email me, or contact any other OTC person.

Tim this is one event I will make it to. I will be bringing my 70 would consider entering the unsuspended class if there is enough interest.
Sorry we haven't been to any of the other OTC events this year but money has been scary tight this summer. :( The only out of town riding that we've done this year was at Trikefest. I'm looking forward to Lightning though. :w00t:

It's only 38 miles from town. Just throw the 3wheelers on the back of your truck and head on over. :D

We camp on top of the grassy hill. He has a modular home up there now though, so we can either camp down by the bottom, or just move farther back by the main parking area, but in the grass.

Kiser and Crazy, we will be happy to have you join us. Dont sweat it, and just have fun with it. You can get plenty of open track time on Saturday to check it out with hardly anybody on the track. Dont worry about doubles or keeping up with A class riders. There WILL BE a "B" class. If we are short on numbers, theyll just stagger start us and run us togther (scored separately) like last time.

I went to their website. It looks like they are building a flat track this fall, so hopefully next year.

Wow! Lot's of interest already. I am there for sure. Carrie may or may not be there the whole time depending on work schedules.

I'm also thrilled to see more "B classers" coming out for Sunday - just keep the wheels on the ground and the shiny side up, boys.

Not sure which machines to bring yet. Definitely 250R, 350X and 110. The Big Red may have to sit this one out due to trailer space.

Do we need one for the MX on Sunday? I thought this was an off CRA weekend....meaning LAWLESS TRIKER...oh oh ah Jamboree:beer . I'm going to run a 200x No thether in the MX if they'll let me...Other wise it's trails only for me...which let me tell ya...as difficult as you want it. Not the biggest Hare Scramble track I've seen but if you do bothsides in a continous run....you'll get a serious work out at speed. Trying to make it by Sundown Saturday after the TWINS:Bounce:Bounce 1st Birthday:w00t: ...Yes I will be bringing some cold ones, Daddy is looking forward to this BIG TIME:lol:
Note: add 1 more 70 for the Killer Group Photo.... :TrikesOwn

Also I will be bringing a community 30'x 25' Party tent for general use...I know I won't be there all day Sat; but if The OTC wants to leave a little room for setup(shade or protection from the possible weather) COOL. Other wise I'll put it were I can. See you'all there!

We just got home from Lightning Raceway and the OTC Jamboree. It rained right after practice and continued through the first half of the moto's. It turned into a muddy mess in short order. It was directly responsible for at least one engine failure. The rain did let up and the sun came out and the last half of the moto's were much better.:w00t:
Here are some pictures of the mudmen.

Thanks for the great videos guys! It was very enjoyable to relive it from an armchair! That kind of weather is about as hard on video equipment as it is on bikes.

You might want to add the year to the title in these. Its not a problem now, but after next year when there are another dozen videos posted, youll be glad the year is in there. Search OTC Smith Rd or Summit Indoors and youll see what I mean. :)
