I just picked up a 83 honda 250 r the motor is missing a piston... and the bottom end seems to be seized... i got a spare motor with the atc its a 82 250r and it seems to be in great shape as far as i can tell.... Is there anyway without tearin it down to find out if its worth just throwin in there... it seems to have great suction and compression even though the reed are not in it.... does that matter...??? i started tearing the old motor out and ran into a snag theres a bolt almost under the swing arm.... do i haft to remove the whole swing arm or is there a catch... if anybody has the time to answer a few things for me it'd be greatly appreciated...
thanks nik

I'd take the head off the 82 just to be sure. Then you can get an idea of your bottom end checkin for play in your rod by moving it slightly up and down. You'll have to remove that swingarm bolt buddy and i can almost assure you it will be seized in there. Them things are a BIATCH! Do it once and do it properly... Trust me, you dont want to break down in the middle of nowhere, then have to push it home only to pull it apart anyway.

I don't think you can remove the engine without removing the swingarm... you need to maneuver the engine a bit to get it out, and even if you CAN get it out (which i doubt) with the swingarm in the way it sure will be a lot harder!

Soak the piss outta it multiple times a day about a week before you try it. Any rust buster/wd40 will work. worse comes to worse use a toarch (CAREFULLY*) and warm it.
