83-82 250r motor swap gear shift spindle

im putting a 82 motor in my 83 honda 250r cause the bottom end is locked up.... I got the trike like this so i dont know the exact problem yet.... i want to take it out and go through it all and make a 310 out of it.... i ran into a snag i notice the gear shift shafts are different.... the 82 is longer the the 83.... i was scrollin through the forums on here and a guy had explained it alil but no chance in finding that forum again... and it wasnt that detailed... so if anybody could tell me if i can switch them or if i will still work it.... thanks... pics attached....

for some reason I always thought the 82 and 81 motors were different than the 83-84 motors. anyways, bump for this, i hope you find some good answers. I would think that daddio and 1upfront might have a better idea given their extreme customizing of the 83-84 250r's in every sense. good luck and BUMP for you!

just find a shifter to suite the shorter shaft.....
