I've have seen these spiders around my yard from time to time and I have been wondering what type of spider they are, and I thought some one on here would be able to help. I call these spiders a banana spider because compared the most of the spiders I normaly see, it looks likes these ones just crawled out of a box of bananas.

If it looks like this http://www.duke.edu/~jspippen/arachnids/blackyellowargiope-d040828-128tingaz.jpg , it's a writing spider.

maybe the link will work this time.

It looks like a garden spider.
We get them here and they get BIG..
About the size of tennis ball in diameter including the legs.
Bodies about the size of a thumbnail.

They are harmless and not aggressive, but if they bite you I hear it hurts something fierce.

If it looks like this http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/shamarzipan_1161132761_97.jpg , it's a writing spider.

I tried that link and it said something about unauthorized access.

I think from what I have found it is a garden spider, but maybe if that link worked I would think something different.

I tried the link, and now it works. That's what it appears to be, and if it isn't, it's a garden spider.

The reason I called it a banana spider was because compared to the most of the spiders I see around here, this one looked like it just crawled out of a box of bananas from some forign country.
