I have a chance to purchase a 1987 ATC 125m for a hundred bucks . It defiantly needs work . Needs a New seat , gas tank , fenders look ok but faded and he says it smokes . Looks to have sat 95% of its life not in use . My question is are parts hard to find for these .

Yes the 2nd gen 125m is about as rare as they come for trikes

86 and 87 are the 2nd gen the 85 was just like a 110 ......and yes the 86-87 is the hardest bike to find parts for......i have some used parts if your willing to ship from the UK.

This sat in a shed so long that the original front tire rotted and cracked wide open . Dont think it has much ride time on it . I already put a new front tire on it just so i could roll it around the shop . Need to find a gas tank , seat and a better set of rear fenders . The bike is in much better condition than the rear fenders so I guess they got left out side or somthing .

do you need just the foam or the whole seat, just compared the 125m seat to a 1st gen 200x seat foam and it looks like you can trim down the 200x one down to make it fit.

I have a really good pan so just the foam . Was even thinking of trying a 200x foam as it looks very close :wondering .

according to this ebay ad the 200s and 125m share the same seat cover, foam might be close aswell

I finally picked up some parts for the 87m . Had to hone the cylinder and installed new rings and top end gasket kit . It runs surprisingly very well and the reverse and electric start is something I'm not used to on a trike . The hard to find parts were the rear fender and seat and the gas tank but their off a 86 model but work fine . The 100.00 purchase price and another 200.00 in parts I think I did ok :wondering . let me know what you all think .:beer

I would guess you had way more than 300 bucks in that. They should have put front suspension on that thing from the factory.

Yeah front suspension would be a nice upgrade for these but I guess honda was trying to keep the the purchase price down ?:wondering

Well I decided to install a 83-85 200x cam in the 87 125m this morning . This was a pretty simple job and it made a noticable difference in mid rang and topend power for sure .
Need to cut the 200x cam advancer shaft off to the same measurments as the 125m cam , you also need to use the 200x timing sprocket and bolts and then just adjust the valves and the timing chain and your good to go . I did have to adjust the carb a little bit but I got it dialed in perfect . :w00t:

That came out really nice. I never realized the 86 and 87 didn't have the "flat" motor like the earlier ones did.

I live close to someone that has a 86 or 87 125m. it looks to be near mint not a lot of use, has been a while since it has last run. he said after it was sunk in the river close by the house, they had to redo the topend and now when it runs after about 5-10 mins it starts spitting oil out of th exhaust. what could cause this? I might try to buy the trike off of him around the early part of next year.

Possibly a crack in the head somewere or maybe the rebuild wasnt done correctly . Heads arnt that hard to find . A TRX125 is the same head .

Bought a few little things for the 87m and the more I ride this little trike the more I like it .
Installed a new alum front rim a rear trailer hitch to pull the wagon and small trailer and a universal rack for the back .Now I can do yard work with this and its fun . :Bounce

That is a sharp ride. I'm looking for something like it to pull a trailer for yard work around the place. Probably a big red.

props, very nice shortline. mighty fine job there. :beer
i think you started with a great base, but it's still not easy finding some of that stuff for the 86-87's. found an 86-87 not far from me, but (parts wise) too intimidated because of the rarity of them.
