I'm checking out a 1985 250R and a 350X that I'm interested in getting one of the two. I've always wanted one of these two 3-wheelers after I had my 200X but never got one since they outlawed them in 1986. Back in 1986 I had my dad talked into going down to the local Honda dealership and check out a brand new 1986 250R that I was hoping to get. When we got to the Honda dealership the owner had the 250R in the back setting up on the back grab bar and said he couldn't sell it because of the new law. That was 23 years ago so now since I started my 1984 ATC 70 build I'm looking for a 1985 or 86 250R or 350X. Between the two which is preferred? Price wise the guy selling the 250R is asking $2000 and the guy selling the 350X is asking $1500. Here are some links for them:

i would take the 350x any day. cheaper, 4 stroke honda, much wider power band, May not be the ultimate drag machine, but it would be much better for all around use.

It's a tough choice to make they are both gorgeous, but I agree with Pafrig.

well to put it at both angles, have you ever ridden a 2 stroke? if not the 350x is a good choice, but if you have then I would not pass on the 250r, 250r's are not as bad you think, people all the time find these things on stock pistons and sleeves. Also the 350x listing is false lol "fastest 3 wheeler ever made!" lol it has stock pipe setup on it. Also if you ran a 200x I would check out the 250r its almost the same size except it wieghs 10 pounds more.

factoryX....yes I've ridden a 2-stroke (CR125) before. Just never really owned one put like I said I always wanted a 250R 3-wheeler. I did notice that the listing for the 350X said "Fastest 3-Wheeler ever made". LOL . I saw a listing for the same 3-wheeler on another Craigslist for around the area and they listed the same thing but also referenced a ebay listing that they where comparring the price to.

I would sell my original 250R cheaper than what he wants for that one with the silver aluminum wheels....

I have ridden both machines and I would have to say that it depends on how you will use it.... alot of wide open space or sand? 250r all the way. Trails ,big hills, technical trails and wheelies? 350x

the 250r seems to be missing a chain and a pipe?

I got both 86 250r and 86 350x. The R is better when i go ripping around and jumping but I think i ride the 350x more since I been doing a lot of trail riding and stuff like that. Even so, The R is still pretty good just trail riding. Eventually you'll want both. So get 1 now, and 1 later. I went from a YTM 200 E to an 86 250r. I was blown away!

If you wanted a 250R back in the day, and Rode a CR125, I think you will be upset to pass on a 250R.
Nothing agianst a 350X, but I would think you want that 2 stroke snap back under your seat.

I would find out what is up with that R. Why is it missing parts?
If you can go ride the R and it feels good, looks good, buy it. But it isnt a $2000 trike right now either.
As it sits, non running like that from the pics, I wouldnt offer more than $900-$1200 for it.
In running, riding condition, I would say that R is worth $1500-$2000.
There is just so much more potential with The R, aftermarket parts, and the suspension is hands down better than the 350X.

Not to mention, most 350X frames are weak and crack, and finding a nice used X frame is getting hard. They also seem to have a lot of Camshaft /cylinder head issues, you cant pick up right away, and can be a costly fix, with the heads getting harder to find in good condition.
R frames are stronger and everywhere if you did need one.
And even if you had to rebuild a whole R engine in the future top to bottom, It would probably cheaper to do, and more parts available than the 350x.

EDIT..Hondaluvr posted a pic of a 250R that looked really rough.
After checking the Craigslist link you posted, if everything is as described, I would Get that R..No question.

I didnt mean any offense by saying it was rough.
But it is far from "all original" as you said. I see some scribing on the cylinder? Is it ported?

The guy posted a Link to the one he was looking at(which was (different than yours) with a OEM 86 seat, then I guess you posted a pic of yours? I thought you found that pic off craigslist for him.I didnt know it was yours, and it isnt a scrap pile at all.
I just meant it needed some work.

I thought for $2000 asking price, the machine would have a pipe and chain on it.
I ain't rich either, but If I am selling a machine for that kind of money, I would post a pic of a $2000 machine that is at least complete looking.
Sorry.Didnt mean anything by it.

And just to clear up any confusion, in my first posts I said IF Hondaluvrs Trike had a chain and pipe on it, it could be worth $1500-$2000

that's fine, but I don't know why other people are posting pics of there bikes on threads that do require them. Also, $2000 for a clean 85-86 atc250r is not that bad of a deal knowing that bike is clean and that the owner took care of it. Also, what bikes are worth is for you decide, your the one paying for it.
