Got the frame and swing arm painted up. Not the best, but not looking for perfection. Plan on riding the s%#* out of it when I get it running again. Let me know how i'm doing so far. Thanks.

As of today, got the swingarm back on with brand new bearings. Zero play side to side now! Cleaned and painted shock. Time to tackle the front end now. Sorry the overspary on the tires looks horriable. Have to take some paint thinner to them yet.

Just got my forks and brake drum back today from getting polished. New fork boots, also repalced the seals. Got most of the frame work done now, and my jetted carb is on. Now, finally I get to tackle the motor. What do you guys think so far?

No pics this time, but I just finished putting the clutches back in. Got brand new friction disc and springs. Also swapped the centrifical clutch housing with another one I had. Hopefully that will fix the slipping problem I was having. The other day I put in brand new valve seals and heavier valve springs. Hopefully will have the head back on tom. with my new performance cam. Keep ya guys updated and more pics to come soon.

Yes, I do live fairly close to the blvd. Yes I did take the shock off and paint it. I cleaned the over spray off shortly after I posted on here. It was driving me nuts. Today, I decided to go ahead and replace the bottom head gasket. Hopefully I put the rings back in the right position, and then I bolted the head back on. Put the performance cam in, but got to cold. I'll time it tom..

Looking good.
I too, am working on a 250sx, and wanted to paint the rear spring red. Can you tell me how you got the spring off the shock? I can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Josh

lol, I cheated. I taped off the shock and painted just the spring. When it was dry, I used that lite blue masking tape and taped off the spring. I then cleared it all. I hate giving away my "easy way out" secrets. Could get a spring compressor, or do it my way.

I thought about doing that way, but it is too cold to paint now. I will have to wait till the spring time to finish painting mine. It will be assembled for some snow riding though

Looks great bra! Hey on the overspray on the tires, what I do is, tape up the rim area nicely. Then I spray WD-40 on a rag and soak down the non-taped areas of the tire. This way the spray paint wont stick to the tire very well and will wipe right off. I also use the WD-40 to clean the paint off some areas.

Well, got it running today. I was breaking in the cam, but had some fuel problems, and one of the valve covers came loose and was flapping around, but got it running again to make the required 10-15 min. Runs pretty good, but there is some stuff I have to work out yet. It is hard to start, and usually backfires a few times before it turns over, but once it gets going its good. Even got it to idle decent. Anyone know why it could be backfiring and hard to start? Also, the key won't shut the motor down, have to use the off switch on the handle bars. Anyways, got some tinkering to do but the main thing is it runs. Hope to get some pics up soon.

when its hard to start I usually find that it is valve clearances. by the way nice build!

Yes, they do need checked again after the first fire, hopefully, thats it. I did have some difficulty timing it too. I would get it right on, but when I put the tensioner on, it would put it out of wack a just a hair. Did it twice, but had the same result both times.

is it a new cam chain? because mine is stretched on my ES, and no matter what I do it will always be a little bit off. so that might be your problem

New chain, yes. It was a hair off before too, but it didn't backfire, and started right up. I don't know, gotta cheak some things out yet. By the way, watched the high quality paint Cobra uses burn to absolutly nothing, as usual. Any other suggestions about anything are welcome.

Dude where are you in North Tonawanda! I have worked at Weavers on and off since 2003 when we opened. I totally missed this thread.

Well even though it has to go to the shop to get tweaked a bit, here it is so far. I rode it a bit, and like I said, soon as it stops bogging, it runs great. Lots of torque with the new cam. Even made a short vid of it running for you guys.

Well I get it back form the shop the other day. Still have some bugs to work out with it though. Still getting a bit of lag in the lower end. I hopefully have narrowed it down to a fuel delivery problem, so I have ordered a brand new petcock for it. I did get to take it for a spin in the woods a bit. Wish I could of got some of those pics, but couldn't get the wife to go with me. Too cold I guess. There is a circle track in the woods. I was drifting around it in 4th with ease. It was a blast. I'll keep you guys updated. Theres more to come.
Parts I have added:
Web-Cam Camshaft
Web-Cam Valve springs
EBC Clutch plates and springs
Cobra Exhaust System
Moose jet
Timing chain (forget the brand, got in on Ebay)

Nice looking low hour machine!!
Man, I was psyched to build a nasty SX motor (cam, springs, retainers, 350X carb, 10.5:1 piston etc etc etc) but I just found it tgot me to the jumps that bend all my rear suspension parts faster  And those dam Cobra pipes, I swear they use the worst paint they can!........ I've bumped my pilot up, repainted that headpipe and STILL it burns off :( I think they must use a metal half of the stock headpipe wall thickness. You can get some nice gains out of the Cobra, but it's loud as hell and the paint just won't stay on; I'm use to it by now......
The SX is a super fun trike to play on and with the extra power/auto/reverse/eletric start/etc etc, I love em!! Mines in my basement now because my friends kept riding it, then my buddies GF rode it and tried taking off in too high of a gear. A recipe for disaster!! IDC if I don't ride it for 2 years, but I know it's there when I need it............ What can I get for it? 900$ if I'm lucky... I'll keep it until I can have a 25x60' shop :D
We need to get you a 200X front end on there with a disc brake, That REALLY makes the SX much more fun! Handles better, stops better and iot's just a super trick setup to have if it's done right!! These days you can find a whole front end with a decent tire for about 100$, how can ya beat that!!
