help me try to figure out what is wrong .So this is how it all started got a 85 200x and the crankbearing was bad and had good top end so i decided to get bottom end of ebay and it worked but it smoked when i put it together so i then decided to get rings .the piston was stamped 0.75 on the inside the skirt is marked art so i orded 1.00 rings and sanded down the rings to fit and put it all together and it wont start.it just back fire threw the carburator so checked the timeing and everything was dead on so tried to advance and retarded it and all options still backfires cleaned carb and tried new spark plug this thing is got me at wits end so please help me

I dont think sanding piston rings for a 1.00 mm piston to fit a .75 mm piston is a good idea at all. You have to do things right the first time, and that will save you money and headaches later. Anyways, is the plug wet, indicating it is getting gas? Have you tried starting fluid in the spark plug hole? Does it have good compression (rings may be out of round, and not uniform from you sanding them) Is the exhaust clogged? Does it have spark? Valve clearance set correctly? If it is in time like you say, I would check all these things. Where abouts in Minnesota are you located if you dont mind me asking? Also, ART on the piston means its a Sudco, the company brand that Honda used in ther motors. You cant use Wieseco rings on a ART (sudco) piston, you have to use Sudco rings.

check your valves and ensure your cam is not 180 out.

And you are absolutely positive you aren't 180 degrees out of timing? To be honest that really wasn't a good idea to sand the rings down....

take it to a mechanic if you are sanding the rings then i think you may have buggered up other things, engines arent everyones thing
