10-12-2009, 07:58 PM
Scott, those BR's are awesome!! And Thorpe, I too would Love to see some clear, up close pics of that receiver. That is exactly what I want for mine. Would you be interested in making some and selling them? Is it still removable with the hitch bolts are is it welded to the bike somehow?
Thorpe
10-12-2009, 08:34 PM
Completely removable.... I could build a few more...

A close up of that pic would be great Thorpe. What would you want for one? That is exactly the solution to a problem I have pulling my one trailer.
ScottZJ
10-12-2009, 08:47 PM
I knew a dude in Ark that made one from the factory hitch. He cut the end off and welded a block (receiver) on it and drilled the hole for the pin. It worked great too and I have thought about making one for one of my big reds.
Thorpe

Yeah I need a close up of the mounting on the windshields if you could, as I have one with brackets and not sure how it mounts hehe. I would love to add that to the mint 87 to finish it off with accessories.
Here are one set of highway cruzer type brushguards I have on one of my big reds. They bolt to the frame by the motor mount and use the existing bolt holes of the footpegs. I will try to get a closer pic of the skid plate one in a few days.

i like my buddy's idea he's got on his 85 BR. he mounted one of those cheap marine cig lighter plugs (water proof) in the rear compartment for his little elec. tire pump. he's got it wired up to the selenoid or relay? (whatever it is behind the lefthand side panel) then to the main ground under the seat. he did it this way so he'd still have use of the front plug. he is thinking of hooking it up to the ignition wire maybe, so it'll be powered with "key on" only. right now it's got power all the time.
i don't have a pic yet, and i was even out there last night but forgot the camera.
mentioned to him last night maybe he should think about hard wiring the pump to a switch and just by-pass the cig plug, simplifing the whole thing.

Thorpe

Dajeepman-- Love the tires... Do well in the snow, and awesome in the mud... I am really happy with the ITP mudlites... Mudbug-- Think I paid about 70 bucks a wheel for those...
Its not too shabby now, but it was a turd when I got it... Lots of time and lots of money... My wife was looking at it in the garage the other night and says... "Why dont I think that the original 450 you paid for it, isnt all the money that is invested in it...?" Needless to say, I just cracked another beer and never answered the question...

IMO, they are not as strong as the ones on my other BR. (the last pics) but maybe its because their tightening points are a bit weak/rusty

I like how the head light is removable and you can use it as a spot light!! but has anyone tried to install a HID bulb and use a ballast ? Have a nice white light that uses less energy?

I was wondering same thing has anyone tried new style halogen in a big red?
Thorpe
02-22-2010, 08:48 AM
Halogen spot light, or a new halogen in the headlight? I put a halogen in the headlight on mine. I believe the H4 (?) is the same base and fit right in... Bumped the wattage up nicely, and readily available at the autoparts store... HID conversion would be rather spendy since along with the ballast they require a power supply...

thanks I will hunt for one it would be neat with the blue light must be brighter

Yea but wont that put more of a draw on the alternator? or stator? I would think.. HID are olny 35 watts and now they make 50 watts HID ballast are cheaper every day.. but my main concern is the I like to keep the head light extension so I can use it as a work light.
