I bought a 84 bigred shafty knowing the forks were screwed, big suprise i know. anyways, i came across a 85 200e or es, that smoked like a train but had great forks. I was thinking i could switch them over. so now i had both trike sitting beside eachother im seeing some serious differences. the good trike needs the whole front end basically. the key ignition is broke, it works but is split open. can i just swap out the keyed ignition? if so the wires are diffrent, wondering if anyone has done this. also the shafty has the reverse light on the HUD and the other dont. not that i need the light, im sure ill know if i put it in reverse, lol. most wires match but not all, i have the clymer with the wiring diagrams, but i like hearing from real experience. before i start cutting wires, lol. I am also wondering if these will bolt up at all. the forks themselves are pretty diffrent. wondering about angles and such. anyways if anyone has tried this already, please chime in and tell me if im retarded or not. Till then im just going to keep plugging away at it........

the 84-85 200ES (not the 250 models) will all interchange. i think agian "THINK" the 82-85 200cc ES/E models interchange on the forks, but again "think". i jsut passed on a 82 200e with a bad top end (smoked) bad clutches, and locked forks (no parts available to rebuild them other than seals and if it's locked or wobbling seals do nothing) so i put a 250sx fron on my 200e. cut the steerstems of and welded on the 250sx stuff on. BEST dam mod ever for a 200e!!! too time but well worth it!!!!!! makes it ride sooo much smoother and soo much more travel too!!!!!

i would consider on that swap to take the bottom end off the smoker 85 and put your top end on. will make a big difference. and use your 84 as a donor to the 85.
