Picked this up for 60 bucks from the original owner. I had my crappy 85 that was worth jack crap, and after all the work i did... still sucked ass. So heres my new winter project, one owner, bought at dealer in 89, original everything cept handlebars, pretty good shape. came with everything down to the tire pressure gauge

Nice score man, ride that one and enjoy it. You can always sell your 86 for a few hundred bucks if you need to free up some cash...

Very nice score! You cant beat deals like that for sure. I got an 86 big red for around 50$ and made it into a great rider.

Wanted 150 originally, but kept bringing the price down because of rust and a dent then under-inflated tires after it has been sitting for 6 years, original title, all receipts, he said cause its so old its not worth much to him anymore so sold it for what he thought was fair.
Also (I know nobody will believe me) had a 87 350x, both of these were bought in canada in 89, the 350x was already sold for a whopping....400 bux, I offered 700 for it, but he wanted to be honest to the other guy, it was mint except for a ding in the swingarm and a small crack in the rear tailight.

get any pics of the x?
Twilight

No pics, sorry I saw it only when getting back from Oregon. I didnt even know this was for sale, just drove by while getting dairy queen and saw the bike with a for sale sign. It looked like a 86, toolbox was larger than my 85's and a different seat. I offered 1000 for both bikes right then and there but he wanted to be honest for the other guy, which sucks because from what the owner told me, he wants it for track riding like he did in the 80's...hopefully it wont get f'd up.
They were both ridden until 98 apparently, then he stopped when his wife left. Said his friend and him went up to Canada to buy them, he bought a 350x and 250sx, and his friend bought a 350x and a 86 250r. I asked him for his friends number incase he wants to sell.

Great find Twi!!
But just as sure you feel it was an 87, I feel that anyone would have gone to ANY store and grabbed a camera......
Lets face it, the 1st guy to cough up actual 87 photos of either the 250R or 350X will be etched into 3WW and 3Wheeler history forever.
Many of us would camp out on the owners lawn until daybreak to buy a camera if it were late. It's like having a night with Jessica Simpson naked but after a ruthy was tossed in her yogurt. Once in a lifetime......
I have a very hard time thinking anyone (esp a longer standing member) would even mention that they ACTUALLY SAW a 87 350X and didn't jump over fire and alligators to get a picture..................................

What color was the mud flap on the x you saw??? That ad sure looks read to me, and i'm sure the reflectors just snap around the grab bar so that wouldn't help any...
Twilight
10-20-2009, 09:58 PM
Mud flap was black, trike looked like the one in the brochure there, different exhaust header shield, decals on tank looked like a 86, tank cap was flatter and a dull black than my 85's, rear shock was still blue, key pad covering the handlebar area, the keys rubber shield was wide and thin, kickstarter said "kickstart" on it, and the seat was the same A that the older models have, also the toolbox was more wider vertically had a area for the manual, tool kit, and a small compartment on the side that the owner put the registration into.
Thats what I noticed anyway

So are you saying the tag said 1987 on it?
I'd like to think there are 1987's out there somewhere but man you run across one and don't bother to snap a pic? It isn't just a rare part it's a mythilogical beast.
I really hope it was an 87.
Twilight
10-21-2009, 11:17 PM
I will swear by my 250sx being an 87 that the 350x was. It didnt look much different from an 86, besides a key and the exhaust header shield... I wouldnt have known.
On another note, this has a big dent in my tank, whats a good way of popping it out?

air pressure works pretty good, just be careful, as you can overinflate and cause the curved section for the frame to pop out.

I would have tried harder to convince the guy otherwise to sell it to me. offer him say 1500 or 2 grand. outta change his mind some. that would have to be worth alot of $$$ to collectors
Twilight

Again I was in a rush and sadly I barely had 700 to spend. I could of tried harder mayb but he wanted to be honest and I respect that.
