i picked up a 350x a few weeks back and the exaust bolts on the one side are busted, the casting in the motor split so there is little left for the studs to go into.
my question is should i have them welded (or even jb weld) and then drill/tap or should i just look for a new head?

is there anyway to weld in a filler?
thats what it looks like they did once befor...and it didn't work!
i plan on putting a lot of money into the machine/motor so i might as well not try riggin the head.......whats the going rate for a head?

heads are not cheap, you would be hard pressed to find a decent used one for less than 125.00. I would see if you can have it repaired.

yea if yours is in good shape (have to take it off to find out) but heck why not do a basic top end rebuild while it's off and get a good solid motor? rebuild the head, new valves and valve job. get the head welded up and redrilled. shoudl be fine. any decent welder guy can do it.

Very few people seem to have a good TIG welding person.
If you do, thats the way to go. Fill it in and then machine it........
I know, it sounds expensive..... BUT, if the cam journals are good, then a good head can be hard to find! You can buy a couple 175$ 350X heads and STILL not get a good one.
Most machine shops run can 75$ an hour. I don't have a TIG, but I can machine new threads in allot cheaper than that if you get it welded and filled.
Don't even touch the other bad studs, machining them out is near 100% successful.
