Have just got a 86 350x given to me in a box. Top end of the motor is all apart. My question is the cam journals. How bad is too bad? There are some pretty good gouges on both the head and the rocker box. And are there supposed to be any sort of bushing or bearing? or is it just steel cam on aluminum? Any help would be great. And can get pics if nessasarry.

I'm pretty sure the cam just rides on the aluminum. I think they could've designed that a bit better.

If you wanted to you could probably have the cam ends turned down and get some special made bearings for it. It would save the head and would probably last 30 more years with those bearings.

It's easier said than done. I used to work for a machinist who experimented with that exact situation.

xr's only does this to xr motors, they have the same problems. Did anybody try and see if they can help the 350x situation?
