I picked up these to heated floor mats out of a shop, they went to in-floor heat. One is 4'x4' the other about 24"x24". Rubber. I can't see any names or part numbers. There are only 2 wires coming out of each, that kind of resemble HEAVY speaker wire (silver). Do these need to be hooked to a thermostat, or regulator or something, or just straight to an outlet? I'd really like to see if they work well, but I don't want to destroy them... PS they're friggen heavy!
thanks guys

Wonder if they were run from a transformer or something... 12V maybe?

you have to find out what voltage.12vdc or 120v ac or 240ac.thermostat not technically need, will work like a light bulb.

how would I find that out, with no markings what-so-ever?

These are usaully connected to a controller that houses a thermostat and a step down transformer. it has been years since i have dealt with heating mats but i am thinking that they were 3.2v dc But i am sure this varied by brand but it will be dc.

It works similiar to an electric oven, it has coils of small wires running throughout the mat and the resistance decides the heat. There isnt any electrical componets in it to burn up just the small wires. So i would experiment a bit with some small step down transformers and see what you come up with. Start at the smallest one you got and start going up.
