just purchased an 83 honda 200 for my g-kids to play with in the back yard.noticed that there is a tiny drip from the gearbox on it & don't want them having sad faces after using it for only a couple hours if it breaks... can you tell me what lub/oil & weight goes in the gearbox so i can get some & keep it topped up to keep their smiles topped up..lol... ty for any help

on the 200X the gearbox and engine oil is the same. i would just get some 10w40 and keep around. i take it that you have not changed the oil since you got it? if not i would change it and clean the air filter. who knows when the last time the former owner changed it.

thanks !! am new to this.. just got it for the grandkids as i have custody of them & love to spoil them..lol... i did clean the air filter & checked the brakes etc. (safety stuff) but i will now change the oil tomorrow... 10w40 is ok for up here in Canada where we can get plenty cold ?? & then keep the gear box topped up now that i know what to put in it... thanks again jensenracing77

You might want to run 10w30 or even 5w30 if it gets really cold. I know how cold it can get, as I live in Minnesota. I have run the light 5w30 when it has gotten below zero, but if its above zero, I have never had a problem with the 10w30. Making sure the machine is fully warmed up is also a great idea before riding. Let it idle for at least a few minutes before riding in really cold weather will also help a lot, and let the oil thin a bit. Good luck, and another welcome to the boards!

i believe regular motor oil is what you need. 10w30 or 10w40.
